Besides, even Yoshi himself said that SE has had the "graphics disease" for too long (in other words, obsessed with producing beautiful looking games... at the expense of everything else, like story, characters, gameplay... you know, what an actual game consists of.)

Then Yoshi is bananas as that's never been the case for any main series FF game. Sounds more like an excuse to get away with using poor quality textures/models, reusing all the assets they can, etc. especially since the examples you gave of what they should focus on (story, characters, gameplay) are all equally poorly constructed. Dunno why I'm posting this on a forum where only paying subscribers can post, but whatever, doesn't make it less true. When accessibility starts harming game quality you run into a massive problem for those that aren't running it on PS3 or a toaster. Fortunately everyone thinks they're a business major so they "understand" SE's predicament and ignore all the glaring flaws XIV has.
