RMT Advertising System.

3 years ive been playing FFXIV.
3 years have i put up with the RMT messages
3 years i have done what the Special task force asked by blocking and reporting.

No change has happen

some days i dont care about the tells, other days it's annoying as all heck
all i want to be able to do is use the [Tell System] to chat with friends and people
but when i have to sift through piles upon piles of RMT tells to find the 1 REAL tell
it just gets old...

nothing is being done to combat this so like many others. Im done. i have shut off
my tells completely. my friends all know how to reach me and that's all that matters

i know im not alone, i know there are others who are also done with the tell system

The tell system should be renamed "RMT Advertising system" cause that is all it is.

I feel like no one actually bothers to read the posts where they specifically say what they've done, instead always going "Nothing is being done, blah blah blah."

Sure they may be mass banning people or bots but when your in game and spam is still going as if nothing has happened, then it kinda looks like nothing is being done. In a way, I guess it is kinda like an Ant infestation, you can kill 100s of em (if you ever had one, you know what I mean) and it looks like nothing is done until you remove the Queen or in this case the main source.

See, I'm aware of this, which is why I don't tend to complain the rare times Balmung actually deals with RMT spam (We don't get much, despite apparently having an issue with them in the mentor chat. It's weird.)

In 3 years time you should have learned to make and use linkshells to talk to friends
In 3 years time you should have noticed what has been done already, even if RMT finds new ways to advertise
In 3 years time you should have learned that there are alternative ways to block RMT spam (not going into details as the means are technically against the TOS)

Though I'd like to see a tell filter, doesn't have to be hardcoded but a configurable one like a macro. Meanwhile you can look for alternatives. ;p

Tell filters don't work though - SE already tried that years ago with FFXI and... it worked for... a week. Then the RMT companies worked out how the filter functioned, and developed ways around it (such as substituting letters in the tell that the filter would block, such as replacing 'w' with "@' in web addresses and mentioning that fact in the tell so that prospective buyers would know where to go anyway.)

And even if they restricted tells to only being able to be sent to people on your friend list, would then cause RMT to assail players with friend requests and cause even more annoyance. It's a zero sum game that SE can't win. No matter what SE might do to stop or limit them the RMT companies will find ways around it, and it only just ends up hurting players in the long run.

Really, it should be the stupid 'people' who actually buy this ill-gotten gil who are the targets of your ire not SE. If people didn't buy gil then there would be no RMT, it's as simple as that. SE are doing all they can to halt this insidious trade. Don't you think it negatively impacts on them as well?

It kindda benefits them. I mean think about it. Every one of those accounts you are getting tells from is a purchased account. They have heavy restrictions on free trials, you need to buy the game and pay for at least 30 days of a sub to send tells, trade, use df, access the mb, etc, they cannot join an fc, use pre-made pts to run dungeons, have more than 1 char, no shouts/yells, cannot get more than lvl 20, no retainers, gil caps and so on. By putting these restrictions on free accounts, rmt main source of adverts, they are effectively lining their pockets with rmt money. They likely have made more money off rmt who buy multiple copies of the game and registers subs daily, than actual players.

But that is the nature of the beast. I don't know of an mmo that doesn't have bots or rmt of some sort. The problem isn't the rmt, its the players who buy the gil. But they get a slap on the wrist from everything I have heard on the forums. And the more money they make the more resources they can extend to the game (hopefully one day they actually will).

So since it is part of the beast, the best you can do is not buy gil and set up some sort of filters, like I have all tells shut off, for instance, since I never use that feature anyway. And blist is pointless since you will get a msg maybe max 2-3 times from one player before they abandon that char. If you want to play an mmo, you need to get used to rmt.

Which is the players who buy gil, but they are so scared of making a mistake and banning a legit player, which has been the case more than a few times. They don't want to take the chance. Kind of understandably. I have been a legit player since beta v1 and I would be very upset getting a ban for something I didn't do. That would reflect negatively on the company moreso than a few rmt.

I honestly do wonder who is actually buying from RMT. I actually looked at their price, even if I WANTED to buy gil the price they have set for the amount of gil you get is an absolute waste of money. More so if you are trying to buy glamor, you'd be throwing more money away then in a year's worth of sub.

If you went to an rmt site, run some security scans. It's well known they have keyloggers and other maleware that snuggles into your system when you even visit their site. Which is how security code free accounts often get hacked.

More shady practices, just another reason not to buy gil imo.
