It's actually more social since you can play with anyone who plays FFXIV. See someone on the forums you want to do a raid with, well now you can.

One of the big problems I see with people who want to do endgame content is they can't find people to run with when they can actually find time to run.My only problem with this is it's kind of a band-aid to the larger issue -- which is that most of this game's playerbase doesn't have time for statics and hardcore raiding.
We need a new type of endgame that more people can participate in... not a cross-world raid finder that just perpetuates the myth of hardcore raiding being relevant.

This will help immensely with that problem.
More endgame will have the same issues without this. Anything that requires dedicating a few hours at a time will, really. That's why a lor of people use the DF, select instance, queue, get in and done with it when they want.

or it could entice them to leave once they realize the grass is greener on the other server. The concept of cross server is a good idea. Only the people who use it will determine if it is a boon or detriment to the overall community.

I strongly disagree with your generalisation here. Our server isn't worse than any other.
You've met some rotten apples, sure, we all did. So what? Ignore and/or blacklist those people and move on. But please don't assume we all or "most players" from Moogle are the same, its simply not true.
PF is only a fraction of the people actually playing on the server. Its also the easiest way to see if someone is an ahole or not because of the requirements or the comment.
And that will not change with the cross servers PF.
Also no one is refraining you to have "in-game friends again" but yourself. The mindset you have about players on our server surely doesn't help.

If you need SE to hold your hand like a kindergartner and force you to talk to players it won't be a long lasting relationship no matter how many times social interaction is shoved down your throat. Some people just want to clear content and the current pool of player is not enough.
If you want to make friends just talk to people.

Talk to people!?!? WTF is this some sort of MMO?If you need SE to hold your hand like a kindergartner and force you to talk to players it won't be a long lasting relationship no matter how many times social interaction is shoved down your throat. The only thing I dislike about it is, meeting cool people and they're on another server. :<
Sounds like you want a real* sandbox MMO. Have you tried black desert? It's not all that sandboxy but there are no teleportations, dungeon finders, nor instances. However there's no player to player trading either :<
