I'm the warrior of light, not the security guard of light.
I'm the warrior of light, not the security guard of light.
Is it because I play a male character that I don't notice this love interest stuff? I was 90% sure Aymeric and Lucia were a couple, a strong couple, together. Estinien gave me 0 indications he was into me, same with Haurchefant...is this game different for me because I'm a male playing a male? :x
I think they're trying to build up the WOL rancor levels. Then when the WOD loses a few allies, the game can go " oh look both warriors have equal rancor and can fight to the death now."
"I don't want to be the kind of person that sacrifices his friends and family for a cause. I want to fight for Estinien--and I want to save him."
I'm not sure how far you are. But 3.2 is certainly shaping up to be the point where we get to try to do this through Estinien. Given all that's happened, losing Estinien again would be a long term...burden within us. To the point where I can see us hurting ourselves if it meant saving him, or at least hurting others for complaining about our efforts.
I dunno, I find I would like to see some personal fallout from 3.3 more than the war's resolution, either in our failure to save Estinien, or through us going too far to save him.

I agree and I believe that this is the direction that 3.2 has set us up for.
YMMV but in 2.55 our characters did show that they're not unaffected by everything:
We kinda gritted our teeth and pushed through all the trainwreck for 3.0~3.1, but with 3.2 it's becoming more apparent that we're getting slightly tired of:
Being treated like a walking weapon

And losing our friends

We've also been given a pretty wide range of choices for our dialogue compared to before which gives us slightly more of a personality, but since this is an MMO it's difficult to give too much personality without it adversely affecting your own created personality.
I think that making the Crystal Braves Ver. 2 would have been one of the silliest choices imaginable, and not in the 'flawed and wounded hero' sort of way, but rather the 'Why are you making our characters so stupid, SE?' kind of way.
Anyways, putting some real work into allowing us to have interactive cutscenes would be amazing. Hell, I'd even go for some Quick Time Events where you have to choose between a number of reactions that could include defending yourself from an attack by blocking/evading or doing something to defend an ally in trouble while suffering the direct repercussions for failing to defend yourself in the process. The cutscenes can end prematurely or drag out even longer depending on your decisions but the end-result could always more or less be the same, with perhaps some flavour text alternated afterwards between NPCs depending on your choices where they comment on their wounds or thank you for helping them/chastise you for endangering yourself. Things like that would be nice.
I did like in this patch how our character showed distrust whenever asked if they would like a drink.
To be fair, we've been protected dozens of times in the story by other people. So, in essence you're basically the weakling of light who needs to be guarded by all the evil things because we can't stick up for ourselves outside of a duty.
Warrior of Light... HA! I'm the teflon mass-murderer who walks in the daylight, free from responsibility for the carnage I have created. My only regret is that more Lalafails and moogles have not been on the hit list... and that Alpha-not won't share his Y'shtola drawings with me.
It's obvious in 3.2 they tried to give some personality to our character and not play the emotionless mute deaf puppet we usually are. I hope they continue like this. I don't like the overzealous effort to make WoL as much neutral as possible. We must have reactuons and emotional breakdowns. Being a voiceless character does not help at all. I know it's one of those things we are missing because of limited budget and time but they have to try. In 3.2 we saw something I hope it goes like this from now on.
