Oh! Could you please tell me about this 'moon expansion', Cyril? You've piqued my curiosity.

Oh, we don't know anything about it. IIRC Yoshi just mentioned he wanted/was debating on making an underwater expansion and a moon expansion.
Goodness, I don't remember the source for it, though. Fanfest maybe?
Of course, now that Zodiark as the moon has been confirmed, it's either an eventual inevitability or an absolute impossibility depending on how events pan out.

The Rising event was where he mentioned it. Along with vague mentions of Samurai, Red Mage, and....based on one banter....blue mage.
I actually feel like Y'shtola's the one being set up for a departure. She's not going to get killed off or anything, but she especially among the Scions seems like the one most likely to take matters into her own hands and run off to do the one thing we're too naive/cowardly/unprepared to do. It's a pretty intense direction for her character to go in, but I kinda hope she keeps going like this.
あっきれた。
If we get a moon expansion, I'll expect a lot of ah, la vache! and ball busting... WHERE'S MY CROSS-OVER EVENT YOSHIDA?! WHERE THE HELL IS IT?!?!
I can't imagine a moon expansion though... An instance on the moon, or Azys Lla style zone perhaps... I'd actually expect to go there sooner than 4.0, actually... "Seek... Seek the Lunar Whale..."

I thought that was a pre-HW thing where they were trying to decide on a "sky" or "sea" themed expansion. I could be wrong though...I'm really wondering how 3.X will wrap up. I'd be okay with the Lunar Whale being a thing though...Oh, we don't know anything about it. IIRC Yoshi just mentioned he wanted/was debating on making an underwater expansion and a moon expansion.

Who'd be our Fu So Ya though?
Next thing is almost certainly Ala Mhigo though, right?
Although, I'm beginning to wonder how we'll segue into that, because aside from the little post-MSQ teasers, nothing seems to be moving in the direction of a renewed conflict with Garlemald. Maybe we'll wrap up the Dragonsong War next patch, and whatever Papalymo and Yda are doing will coalesce with the main story around then/3.4? I kinda like that I'm having trouble predicting what will happen (outside of a few specific beats), though.
You never know, they could do Ala Mhigo alongside our lunar shenanigans like they did in the early parts of 3.0 with the Dragonsong stuff alongside our Ul'dah escapades. Ala Mhigo itself seems kinda underwhelming for the sole focus of an expansion.
I feel like it's kind of the inverse, actually; the moon isn't really known for being a vibrant, exciting place, and while that doesn't have to be true in a fantasy setting, what we've seen of it in FFXIV points in that direction. There could be ruins, or a domed city, or something for us to explore, of course, but an entire expansion there seems a bit of a stretch. Ala Mhigo, meanwhile, is like Ishgard in the sense that (a) it's an endlessly-teased city that we haven't been to yet, and (b) there's an entire remaining section of the world around it that we haven't explored, which is even roughly the same size of what we got in Heavensward. Plus, it's strongly connected to an ongoing conflict in the storyline. It being the focus of another expansion made a lot of sense before two of the most prominent NPC protagonists joined up with the Ala Mhigan resistance; now, it seems practically guaranteed.
Which leaves the buildup to be speculated on! Common sense would dictate that active hostilities with Garlemald will be renewed at some point in 3.x, either as a strategic decision on the part of the Eorzean alliance after Ishgard's problems get sorted, or renewed attacks on their part. Another thought I had, though: what if something happens that causes Garlemald to abandon Eorzea (and thus Ala Mhigo) entirely? Just up and leave, with the cause either an initial mystery fueling our exploration of the surrounding area, or a direct result of the Warring Triad storyline (which would, of course, require that to tie into the main story).
It'll probably be the former, but I think the latter could be really interesting, if done well.
