And that's how you actually got the Drain scroll!Vampires do exist, though. In FFXI, members of the elf race (Elvaan) were cursed to become vampires. You did quests for a few of them. One had you get vials of monster blood to feed on, the other threatened to kill her own brother unless he got her copious amounts of raw animal flesh to devour. I'm sure they existed in other FF games. Those were just the ones I remember specifically.

Braverly Default too if you want to count that as an FF game that class is pretty much that games Blue Mage.Vampires do exist, though. And it's also a job in Final Fantasy Tactics S otherwise it's a pretty obsecure job itself and only been featured as an ability.

A way to "make" a Blue Mage for FFXIV would be to make a "Psychic" who's spells debuff and turn MOB's "abilities" on themselves: "Why are you hitting yourself?" Their spells can be a Blue, to Pinkish like, I guess. http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/B...ge_(Tactics_A2)
At least that's how I can see a Blue Mage being made for FFXIV.
Going the traditional way, it'd be gathering skills via the norm through the job quests if that's how they'd like to implement it. Kind of like how the Summoner learns the Egis.
I have a feeling we'll see the Red Mage before the Blue Mage and it'd either be a tank or a magic MDPS. (AST is a rework of the a Time Mage IMO http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Time_Mage http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Time_Mage_(Tactics))
I want Blue Mage to be a tank.
How it could work? No idea.
Maybe it has a passive buff or in tank stance it enables "Learn" and can store attacks taken during the fight.
Or maybe it will be a shapeshifter.
Maybe it will be like Relm from FF6. We can draw monsters we've defeated and use thier signature attack.
In all honesty I just want to level more tanks.

Hey they could make a list of what monsters teach what skill and then you need to actually go out and pay attention what AoEs to get hit by.
I still say Blue Mage would make a decent vengeance-based tank, with skills incorporating reversing portions of attacks directed at them into direct damage back to the boss, or buffs for the party, etc.
I'd imagine the only way Blue Mage would work in this game is if each job quest that usually gives a skill is a quest against w/e quest mob with the cutscene of you absorbing w/e after they are defeated. That way Blue Mage is still Blue Mage like and has the same quantity of skills as other classes.

That's not actually correct though - the jailer in the chateau dungeons in FFXI was actually suffering from a severe skin disease that made his skin painfully dry and flaky which was made worse being in sunlight (hence why he stayed in the darkness of the dungeon), and he wasn't actually drinking the beastman blood, but simply applying it to his skin as it was the only thing that he found relieved the pain.Vampires do exist, though. And the hapless girl in Jeuno was the victim of a vindictive curse cast on her by a jealous rival of her fiance's affections - again she wasn't actually a vampire at all but was reduced to a kind of primal madness where she ate raw coerul flesh like a wild animal, not drinking blood (the quest involved the player trying to exorcise the curse from her... except the npcs ended up just talking things out with the one who cast the curse and had them remove it from her). Having said that though, true vampires (of the 'vamypr' bestiary class) were later added into the game in the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion, but they're true monsters and had nothing to do with the elvaan.
Either way, you are still right that vampires do exist in the FF series, they're just usually treated as monsters or a negative status effect and not as an actual player class... usually.

Can't say I'm really a fan of the "Vampire as a class" idea. Part of the fun of vampires as a scary monster is that vampirism is permanent; once you're changed, you're changed for good. If you can turn vampirism on and off as easily as switching your weapon, it really trivializes the concept, in my opinion. You're dismissing the parts of being a vampire that are "inconvenient", like a certain infamous novel series did with its vampires that sparkled, rather than burned, in sunlight - and even THAT story at least maintained the permanence of being converted!
Best to reserve vampires as a future monster type.

we can talk of this in every sense possible, either vampire or blue mage, you forget one point quite important in all of this...
Yoshida did said in the past that he will bring class that will bring new stuff to the game and group. however, what will bring the blue mage, that like the red mage end to be a jack of all trade jobs. we can expect a red mage will will loose one face of him capacity, because we are into a mmorpg, not a solo game.
what work for a solo game with a jobs that can do everything but master none, can't be done into a mmorpg, why you ask? because it will lead to a jobs either too powerfull, rending other jobs useless (that will lead to a massive nerf later) or a useless jobs in the sense that since it can do everything, any one specialized will be more interesting. meaning, he will deal decent damage, but will be far less interesting than another dps, he will be able to heal, but not enough in end game content, he will be able to tank but be unable to tank end game content.
for make simple, if they bring this sort of jobs, they need to specialized them, we can see already how semi hybridation lead to weird stuff, like the machinist and bard, that have a few capacity of support, but with reduced dps. in content that anyone can do, like midas normal, dungeon or void ark, them dps are lacking seriously and even with a good stuff will simply be less powerfull than other dps. them utility shine in high end content, where them song/drone can be very important for high end encounter. but we talk of what? 3-5% of the content of the game.... that too little...
i'm sad for the bard and machinist that have to deal with this, i will have prefer yoshida to bring a true full support jobs than saying, people will not love to play it... even if people don't love to play it, some will have enjoy this sort of gameplay. but i digress.... the blue mage/vampire are not tailored for a mmorpg in the form we know it (from solo game) and don't give me FF11 as exemple since this game was well know for have a disastrous balance.
for now, we must maybe look in the direction of jobs that can be bring to the game while still not feel half assed.... and seriously, between what you can imagine and what they can do.... you have a world. with if we can put paris into a bottle (it's french proverb) but it resume well what i see there into this thread. a If we do the bluemage like this or if they try to do this.... only them know what they can bring or not to the game. but for me right now, the blue mage even if it's asked, need to wait a long way before being bring to the game.
i will finish with this, they have said that they will never ever redo 3 jobs at the same time, we can expect 1 or 2 jobs from the next expansion... and i doubt blue mage is them... and even after this with where lead the story, i doubt the blue mage will make it even in the next expasion, exept if they create a new type of "blue magic" that will probably not please everyone... and i can already see a lot of displeased player if they bring the red mage like it was teased last years, since it will not be the red mage of the solo game...
ps: before i forget, add content cost them time, energy and money... create a jobs that will recquire a whole new system for learn it skill randomly will be a major pain in the ass and most player will refuse to play it... since you can end to not learn a skill for hours if you must go hunt a type of monster for X skill.
