Warning, Sch has bad aoe healing pre level....... Dont remember what level you'll get it but by level 60 you will have 1 really aoe heal and a buff that'll make succor and aldoqium double their healing power while getting rid of the shield affect so while you're still in the old content you main thing for aoe healing while be Eos's whispering dawn but thats only a regen affect. So while eos/ Selene can help you heal you'll have to watch out for people who don't dodge well.

I like playing a healer that combines both healing and buffs. In TERA I was a Mystic (even though, from what I remember, the only "buffs" were the auras... been a while though), and in Aion my equally loved alt is a Chanter. AST strikes a great balance (no pun intended, lol) between straight healing and buffing abilities, and after watching several videos on each of the healing jobs (as I knew for sure I wanted to heal again) before even purchasing this game, I knew AST was what I wanted to aim for.

And so AST is my main job! \o/ That's not to say I never play the other healers, though: I play all three classes quite frequently, and have come to thoroughly enjoy the other two healers as well. All depends on what I'm in the mood for, or what the groups needs. I like to be able to adapt, and will eventually be bringing my other two healer's ilvls up-to-par with my AST's. XP (They're not too far apart tbh, and considering there aren't any job restrictions just yet on the newest gear, they'll probably equalize with my AST here pretty fast.)

Thanks for the heads up! I am aware that sch can't heal as quickly as whm, nor should they be able to with free aoe regen and shields. I have no intention of not watching HP bars and leaving healing duties to AI. If that's all the job entailed, I would quickly lose interest in it.

Succor is learned @35 and has half the potency as medica. The next is gained @52 if I remember correctly but requires an aetherflow stack but it's a big time heal. So with strategic use of aetherflow and aoe regen, I'm hoping this won't be too much of an issue. I don't spam medica as cnj like so many others do.

You've got the right of it. Particularly in the 4-man content you play while leveling Whispering Dawn is pretty powerful. So long as you save it until you need it, you'll get a ton of value out of it. Unless your party is just obsessed with standing in AoEs you won't find much while levelling that a Succor + Whispering Dawn won't fix, particularly if you pop Rouse and/or Fey Illumination (level 40) beforehand. If folks find a way to die between (Swiftcast)Succor + Whispering Dawn -> Succor the issue really not another would be fixing anyway.

I didn't trust FF players to heal properly, so I picked the direct healing job (WHM).
I should just play SCH, because every time I get a SCH in dungeon groups, they try to Physick spam people to keep them alive.

Can't play all the roles at once I guess...

What else do you exactly expect an Scholar to do to heal someone? I mean, I know they have Lustrate, but just using Aetherflow stacks mindlessly isn't very smart either...

In the beginning i started as SCH. Over time I developed the other jobs and in the end and more recently, I've gotten all my healing jobs to the exact same itemlevel. I now just decided I'd be a "Healer" main. Being able to adapt a bunch with 3 different skillsets to what people need or what I prefer has definitely been fun and paid off. Though I have to say I end up preferring the shields AST and SCH make.
