

MS changed their stance since then. They now require any online game to pay Gold fees no matter if it has a separate sub. One of the reasons SE didn't want to release the game on Xbox One because MS said that players would have to pay the gold fee.
I had no idea, that sucks for Xbox One owners.




And another was that XBox players couldn't play with PlayStation and PC players. Which would have meant FFXIV would run on Microsoft servers or something (like Chinese and Korean servers). If FFXIV were to come out on XBox One, Microsoft will have to do what Sony did and not require you to pay a subscription to play an MMO with its own subscription to play online.
Though I feel most XBox One players already have a Gold account, anyway.
