After doing a sephirot ex training run me and 3 other fc members tried the feast 4x4. We got utterly destroyed in minutes. This kind of matching has put me off the feast for good. So this is one less newbie you have to worry about.
What i mean to say is that its no fun for a newbie to get matched against a veteran team.

As if the skill bloat with regular PvE content isnt bad enough, it gets doubled when you add the PvP skills. How the hell are you going to fit them on a cross hotbar?
I do agree there should be a training mode like they just added for regular combat.

The thing is, though, 8v8 even says training on it:

It's unranked, designed for people who are new. Those unfamiliar with pvp should be utilizing 8v8 until they get the hang of it.

4v4 premade matches are designed for people who have a "pvp static" so to speak. Those that know their classes well when it comes to pvp, ie experienced/veteran players.

SE doesn't make this evidently clear, unfortunately...

On one hand it sucks that you can't queue with more than one other person for 8v8 but if people were allowed to queue in as a full premade force, would there really be much room to learn if one team is completely premade vs. a team with 3-4 new players? I think not.

I think this is why SE only wanted to have solo queue get rewards, to prevent new players from wandering into the premade cherry-smasher factory. On the other hand, making solo queue ranked, and thus ranked at the mercy of the three randoms you get stuck with, is also a bad idea.

There should be a practice solo queue as well, so players can experiment with the feast without people freaking out about rank progression while they figure out how to PVP.

Another possible angle to solving "non-games":

Make queues based off the healer entirely - a 700 Rating healer would be matched only against similar healers, and the teams would be averaged around them. Keeping healer skill levels close to each other would produce better games on average, which should be a priority over queue times.

While I agree with you, the really new PVPers are intimidated even by that - especially since it's not always obvious what's going on in the chaos of 8v8 and there are way more jobs to get used to all at once. I've been encouraging my friends by taking them on 8v8 runs so I can give advice but actually I don't like the mode that much either and there's a limit to how much coaching I can give while I'm concentrating on healing, while they need to learn to use all of their new PVP abilities and recognise other peoples'. The dummies (still level 50!) in WDP aren't even close to being adequate to prepare people for reshuffling their abilities around and learning how to react in PVP.

The new sparring mode cannot come soon enough. Or at least relaxing the GC restrictions in FL so that I could take them there to get used to the general pace of PVP in a less intense setting - not that that would help on my server. I queued for eight hours yesterday evening and there wasn't a single FL match

A PVP 'Hall of the Novice' training to unlock The Feast would be pretty nice too.

    Sadly, it's only an option...

I said this in another thread, but 3.25 needs to have us unlock Feast all over again... The initial quest unlocks 8v8 only, upon winning an 8v8 match, you can then unlocked ranked. That way 8v8 becomes the norm that everyone does first...

I'd also throw in a small PvP Rank requirement on ranked, just because that absolutely forces people who are new into getting used to PvP before jumping into a queue where their utter lack of experiences ("What's Purify?") ruins peoples rating...

Ona completely off topic sidenote...did anyone ever ballista about 10-12 years ago? Remember when there was the lineup at match start..and vets and noobs were all thrown intogether..w/o match making? Where 5/6 people had full godgear..and the others barely had af 1? And when you got facerolled..it got announced in shout for both teams to hear about. Remember being tempted to quit at one point but saying 'To hell with this'..actually being motivated to get better, learn from your mistakes, etc and start to return favors?

Thank god we've evolved beyond such nonsense. Praise be to Allah that we're striving for the perfect pvp world where matches are perfectly balanced with fighters of exact and equal skill. Heaven forbid we return to the dark ages where noobs had to take the hard road and acquire a little grit under their shoes. I mean..that'd be like sooooo totally counterproductive, right OP?

Solo que might as well be rendered 'Random Que'. Far as im concerned, it plays true to pvp's by-right chaotic nature. Everytime you click the 'Accept' button, you agree to w/e you get thrown into, with nothing at your own aid except the skill under your own hat. Maybe its a sunny day and you get a team full of skillful, experienced fighters so that the match ends in 30 seconds. Maybe its cloudy and you only get 1 or 2...and maybe its downright rainy where your teh only one on team who knows wtf is going on. But that's f a i r. If you want more than that, jump into light party..where you're free to do all the prescreening for potential teammates you want.

Sorry for the vent...just sick of these whinny 'oh god pvp is so unbalanced' posts. Grow thicker skin.

    8v8 isn't training for 4v4.

...beause I get a hard on waiting 2 hours for a proper healer over 5 minutes for a possibly decent one. Good job sir...the logic you subscribe to shall undoubtedly lead us RIGHT back to the not so distant past of WD quetimes.
