I've been debating how to word this request for a while now, and I think the best approach is to just keep it simple: I would like to have the option to fully transfer ownership of a property to a tenant.
How the developers keep this mechanic from being abused (e.g. house selling) I leave up to them. I suggest only being allowed to transfer ownership to a tenant that has had full tenant access rights for an extended period of time (30-40 days). Having said that, if the developers can think of a better solution, even better.
My reasons for wanting this are simple: I play MMOs with my best friend. We have always played them together for the past 18 years and, stars willing, plan on continuing to do so for many more.
When I stumbled across an empty plot and purchased it, there was no question in my mind that the two of us would own that house together. As soon as the game gave me the option to do so, I made my friend a tenant with full access rights. It is *our* house - we have both put a lot of time in saving money for a virtual home, making the furniture together, doing the seasonal quests together that, over time, rewarded some of that furniture, deciding on every aspect of the decorations and layout together, etc. In my mind we both own it. As far as the game is concerned, however, only I do.
If for some reason I am no longer able to play this game for whatever reason (e.g. death or an unexpected event), I want to make sure my friend suddenly doesn't find themselves losing this house in the process. Regardless of any official policy on it, the idea of sharing our account information would not be a barrier for us, and while my friend would certainly have the ability to log onto my character every 44 days to keep our house going, I think that would be a) emotionally difficult and b) unfair to expect said friend to suddenly have to pay for two accounts. Instead, it would be far more preferable if my friend could become the owner of the house in the event that I am no longer around.
I think my friend was even more excited than I was about us finally having our own house here, and every time I hear that "I still can't believe we have a house!" comment being restated, I always find myself worrying about how I'll be able to protect my best friend from losing their virtual home in the event that something happens to me. Yes, this is a video game and in the grand scheme of things it's a silly thing to be concerned about, yet nevertheless there it is.
