We'll have to disagree, because the time taken isn't the same either. You put way more time into making your own 170, because your still farming the same red scrips you would be for i180 plus a whole lot more effort. The "time" put into i180 is waiting for your lockouts to refresh. That time in no way = the effort put into i170. So while they should be relatively close, they should definitely not be the same.
Unfortuneately, I do find the assumption unreasonable, given the effort vs reward. It can happen to anyone at any time, everyone interprets things differently. Unfortunately now your paying the price for taking the path of least resistance, but its not that bad.
Luckily with some careful planning you can come back from it without too much wasted effort, as has already been pointed out. Everyone had to meld, so don't feel like your climbing an extra mountain then the rest of us.
Just to be clear I'm not fully melded or fully geared. I'm 3 star on Weaver, 2 star on the 7 remaining crafts. I've made the best of what I have and am by no means rich. I keep a float of 5-6 million and spend my excess on Wattle bark, Demimateria and Seabornes, the only items I cant harvest myself that I need to make more i170 for myself. Its not as daunting as it seems, just have to change your mindset a little.
