    Idea for Elemental Resistance Materia

    Since everyone throw their ideas out there I'll give mine a shot.

    Have a separate defensive materia slot, you can only use Elemental Resistance Materia in these. Mutamix can remove the materia you slot there separately from the other materia, you obviously lose that materia.
    Add Savage Primals: Savage Garuda, Savage Ifrit, Savage Shiva, yadda yadda yadda... Make Elemental Resistance Materia relevant (not strictly necessary) to this content, bam.

    If anyone else has any other idea for this waste of data in the game (as it is right now), comment your crazy little idea.

    Nope. It would just mean tanks having to carry a million different sets of armor, or re-melding materia every time they want do a different trial/boss. Elemental resistances are a silly stat for any MMO and only works when the player doesn't have to worry about it.

    it already has a great use, meld it to gear to increase spiritbonding speed and to increase desynthesis %.

    You would only carry one gear set at a time, it's Savage, you're not pugging it or anything. You get past it, get your loot and forget about it, go to the next primal in line.

    I like the idea of different materia slots with different rules, but I don't think making elemental resistance important would add much to the game. If anything I think making the materia relevant in some other context than battle would be the way to go.

    Maybe Airship components can be given materia slots that only take elemental resistances and that buffs them against hazards they might encounter during their missions (one sector might have a volcano and fire resistance would help the airship succeed there and another sector would have high winds and wind resistance would get your airship through) or Chocobo bardings can get similar slots and each materia can help "program" them to act differently in battle (want your chocobo to use Choco Cure more than Choco Medica? Slot their head armor with more water resistance and less wind! Want them to stand further away from you while battling? Slot ice materia into their feet armor! FFXI did something similar with Puppetmaster's Automations).
