What you want isn't really what you want...and a lil reality check.

    It's a dilemma...a paradox of sorts...and a little rant by me.

People say they want this...then when it's delivered they find out they really didn't want this. In reality there's a lot of fault that has occurred to the Final Fantasy franchise because of player/fan wants.

We ask for more freedom to play as we please. Well that in essence was what was offered when FFXIV was released. Play whatever classes you want, combine whatever skills to make your perfect character. However, that's really not what people wanted after all...

They even complained about not having tutorials to guide them on how to play...really since when did you play a game with me holding your hand?

What happened to experimenting and figuring things out on our own? I thought people wanted that? Then when SE delivered that many peoples went ballistic.

There's a ton to do but people complain there's nothing to do. Well I guess since you aren't being hand held through a world with a static quest chain you have no clue what to do next. In reality you really wanted your hand held through your whole journey to be told what to do next. Can't have a story unless you are hand held through it...gotta play it out as they say it.

Then there's the case of me me me...I want this now now now or I'm leaving! Seriously? Please let the door smack you on the way out...

Do people think programming a game and designing graphics is an over night affair? Creating a storyline or sequence scenario isn't a quickie thing. In fact it's more time consuming these days then it ever has been. Did you know it could take half a year to code, design, sequence and record a 3 minute movie clip for a game? that opening video alone required some crazy amounts of work by SE.

Next time the developers give us a little special nugget like a lil event or two no matter how insignificant...how about a gesture of thanks. They didn't have to throw that bit in...but as they continue to throw those little pieces in...after a period of time those little nuggets bring a world together...maybe a world more organic and active at all times...

I thought the fun of a game was experiencing it and finding things out? Now people complain that SE isn't telling much about this or that and they want to know everything...well if you know how to say craft every item in the game what's the point of playing a crafter? Oh here's the recipe I'm the proper rank...grind grind grind ooh high quality version. Instead it should be hmm...if I mix x, y, and z ingredient I wonder what I can make? OMG seriously this made this amazing thing...my secret lil recipe isn't that so much more exciting and feeling accomplished that you created something and especially if you did so b4 anyone else.

Why do people jump into an MMO at launch and complain and complain? How many years of MMOs has there been? Has not the common sense person realized if you gonna join an MMO at the start be ready for the changes and problems. If you don't want to take part then simply start playing at the 1 to 1.5 year from release mark. This is true with pretty much any MMO out these days. There's a lot of work to get an MMO out that is of amazing standards...

Some of us early adopters like to start from the beginning to grow and be part of something ever changing...we can look back and say we were there and you had no idea what it was like...but now...now it's amazing.

Should an MMO release fully complete? I've always said an MMO is in perpetual beta and only when they stop working on it is it a complete game. Is it even realistic to have a fullly complete MMO at launch? It costs a lot to make an MMO...I would rather support it at infancy and see it grow with my support. Would you gamble 50 million on a game you don't even know will come to anything?

Look at World of Warcraft...when it initially came out it was horrid and riddled with issues. The crazy 2 hour queues the constant crashes...the horrid lack of content. Yet umpteen years later it's become the king of MMOs.

Give a little love to FFXIV...it deserves it and every day it's getting more and more amazing...and be a little more appreciative that we have this game to play, and have a little respect for the developers. Be patient for all things and stop being childish.

Thank you all and have a nice day.

PS. I wouldn't be surprised if this post got flamed...so I'll say it now. Grow up...or maybe you still a kid and need to mature some. In which case, gain yourself a few more brain cells...learn how things work b4 you open your mouth and make a fool of yourself.

It's because it's not the same people who ask things. If it was like that then problem solved, and IMO would be pretty bad. It's okay when someone is not happy with some things, as long as there's a thoughtful suggestion inside. That helps the Dev team in the creativity of things, how to do them and such.
If I complain about something, and they realize it, there will ALWAYS be a certain someone who doesn't like it. People know what they want. The Whole complex of people doesn't, and it's good. To be unanimous about things is to stop thinking =)

As I can say, they're doing a pretty awesome job, listening to the players and realizing their ideas. Rock on, Dev team!

The sad thing is the people who have positive comments and ideas don't post them...and they let the flamers and complainers take control.

Well dang it guys...it's our game too!!! There's never such a thing as a waste of a good idea so if you have something constructive to say and you like it pass it along. Please do it in a thoughtful way though...

And they might not say it but they really do appreciate praises too.

I know when I was in the industry in a similar situation I was so uplifted and excited to work when someone posted something nice...and then there's the day when you get that hate post and your whole day is ruined and you say why do I bother pouring my heart into this if all they going to do is hate. If you dislike something or don't agree constructive feedback is better then threats and cry me a river posts.

H ahah...I figured it was too long. I think the world only has patience for the length of a twitter tweet. Otherwise too many birds chirping to hear.

Nobody is going to respond the way you want when you have a potentially offensive closing statement, maybe you should remove it.

    EDIT: lol twitter...

I enjoyed that read (rant) and you're right. I personally love the little cutscenes and the small extras they throw in. Here here SE

I also liked that post, but with people (and this is in response do you remember when WoW or so-and-so MMO had a fail release) they forget those things and forget the game they have now took years to build, lol. T
his is why people love WoW now they forgot what it was like at release, and then they keep trying to hold the standards of a NEW market MMO to a game that has been out for years and has evolved and moved past the growing pains. Those stated before is why so many good idea MMO's fail is because either non-original, or they are comparing it to an MMO that has been out for 6+ years already.

It's not that. It's that I'm at work and I don't have time to read anything more than something the length of a typical e-mail message.

I will say this, though. SE could have cut their losses and killed XIV altogether. To be honest it wouldn't have made much of a difference to them in the big scheme of things, what with the recent success of their recent acquisition Eidos.

Instead, they admitted they did something very bad, apologized for it profusely, and have been working for the past year to make things right by us, the fans. Say what you will about what fruit their efforts have born, but they've put a lot of time, money, and resources into this game.
