Look, support your platform or whatever all you like, I don't care what console you or anyone else owns as long as you enjoy your games.
This news story is overblown already as it is.

...this cross-platform news is just more of the usual smoke and mirrors from a corporation that got caught in it's proprietary world with a shrinking console population. Endorsing Cross Platform play makes MS sound like they are doing something special, they are not.
If you look at a major online game such as a shooter. Currently the user populations of those games cannot talk to each other if they are on different consoles. When 360 ruled the roost in the US, this was not a problem because their userbase was very solid and had the critical mass to attract players from Playstation who wanted to play with their friends. Now the boot is on the other foot, MS is losing console users to PlayStation because it has critical mass ion the market.
Microsoft knows that the XBox One will be more viable if friends can play with friends, and keeping a closed network no longer serves their business need, now they need cross platform play to maintain sales and userbase.
Openly allowing cross platform play let's Microsoft claim that they are now open when in fact it's not a technology issue, it's always been a business issue.

FFXI & FFXIV are both clear demonstrations that there is no technological issue, and never has been.
