All players should be trying to play to their fullest. For healers, this means providing additional DPS when the opportunities allow them to do so.

Of course some players may be more tactful about it, but no one should be complaining about added bonuses a player brings to their party unless it hampers their primary role in that party.

Something that is really funny is SE wants you to play dps classes and jobs, but then nerf's down the dps when players dps gets to high!

    One thing to note:

In the Hall of Novice, they even SUGGEST for healers to DPS once people have been topped off sufficiently.

It's going to be the norm much more than it used to be.

Damn right you have to. How many healers came into the tank nerf threads complaining about squishy tanks. Well they fixed that for you. Time for you all to step it up and dps with all the hp tanks have now.

here is a fact in many games the tank class is more self-sufficient, so fact this game is different where tanks need heals is strange and many healers may have played other mmorpgs that they more dps and debuff mobs and or buff allies and heal critical points.

So yes it is normal for healers to dps

I DPS as a healer all the time...especially in those new dungeons, aside from a couple hard hitting attacks and an Adlo here and there, my fairy can keep the tank at a sufficient level... what do you want me to do? Stand around?

I probably wouldn't (purposely) let a tank get to like 3k HP but..... if I knew I'd be fine, I would do it.

star trek online space combat the enginerre would tank all and self heal and heal others, neverwinter the tank great weapon fighter was like 2-3.1s war that could pull entire rooms and need no heals and be best dps, the guardian fighter was simmilar, WoW's holy pld tank and solo healer, so this games tanking and healing is so different.

in most mmorpgs the healer isent a healer but a dps debuff emergency party saver if its needed. I dont tank cause tanking in this isent even tanking. its stupid.

I think this perfectly summarizes it. You won't always require healing. During that time, I think it's fine for a healer to DPS. I personally switch back once I see health fall to 50% (WAR) or around 70% (PLD/DRK), but until then, I'm DPSing like there's no tomorrow and using Luminiferous Aether and perhaps Ewer to regenerate my MP.

Although I do not think a healer should ever let a tank's health fall so dangerously low...I've done it on accident before, but never on purpose.

Well, except that one time when the tank got really mouthy and forgot who it was that was keeping him alive. But other than that, no, I never want to see my tank at death's door.

I would say it is becoming more normal. Or, if you aren't DPSing then you're doing even more standing around than before. After the update to tanks I started finding myself turning clerics stance off after a certain number of casts out of habit and then realizing the tank was fine and that I could keep DPSing.
