PSA you can get free tier 4 materia from old Beast Tribe quests

All 3 of the above are more then enough to have done the beast tribe quests as soon as they out I did anyway.

Yes, those are for people interested of that stuff, me included. However you were blaming people be too lazy to gear up with their freebie IVs. For people with interest to gear up properly (but no interest to the stoey fluff) the beast tribes offered no benefit for that purpose before, so blaming them of not having them leveled up is too harsh. Unless you want to blame people of being too lazy to go throu all story content but that whole different pony.

Spiritbonding is literally the least efficient way of getting materia at this point in the game.

Remember back in 2.x you'd see Spiritbonding parties all the time?

Yeah, now you never see em because why spiritbond when you can...

I don't think a lot of people know that you can get free tier 4 materia from beast tribes.

What I noticed is about 9/10 people in DF did not put materia in their new 3.2 gear. It kind of bugs me because that is something everyone should be doing and you are only putting yourself at a disadvantage if you don't have materia since you are losing out on extra stats you could have. Makes the dungeon take longer too because you are doing less dps. Why is not using materia even a thing?

It’s not that it’s “a thing” in that sense, but for some (including me) buying Tier 4 / 5 materia from the Market Boards is not an option for gear which might get replaced within a week or 2. In this case i’m referring to Midas gear (iLvl220) being replaced with Lore gear (iLvl230).

I simply don’t have that kind of money.

So, in order to save money, i’m collecting as much of the Tier 4 materia as i can through the Beastmen quests. However, i will also need to get Grade 4 Carbonized Matter in order to be able to meld them in the first place. Since the Grade 4 Carbonized Matter can only be found in unspoiled nodes in Mor Dhona, i will have to make time to farm those (which i can only do during the weekends) or buy them on the Market Boards.

By the time i can get my hands on the iLvl240 gear, i can start considering adding Tier 5 materia into my gear and by that time i should have some Tier 5 Materia stocked up (for instance by using the Mhachi Matter you can get in the Void Ark).

You do realise that a full lvl4 melded left side is a 5 ap added on 1000? Its a 0.5% dps increasement.
You may shorten your dungeon run by...10 secs.

Rng of your crt will screw you over far more

And then... why did we wipe at 1%, again?


Im going to take every little bit of stats. As a tank having more Hp, more parry, more self heals , more damage not only helps me. It also helps the group. It is never enough. Especially now that materias are free.

Outside of faceroll content, foods potions or materias do help a lot.

But if you prefer : yes yes it is dungeons. Only dungeons.

The post you were quoting was referring specifically to dungeons though, there's no reason to state that materia is necessary for progression content along with potions and food unless you wanted to state the obvious.
