You do realise that a full lvl4 melded left side is a 5 ap added on 1000? Its a 0.5% dps increasement.

True, but I'm gonna just clarify that this is really the last thing people should be worried about. They should be perfecting rotations and practicing mechanics before they waste time for a meager amount of stats.

That's the bigger issue a large part of the time.

edit: the last practical thing is what I meant above. Cosmetic appearance and such is even lower on the importance to other players.

Assuming it's a DPS increase of 0.5%, then it's really not as much a big deal as you're making it out to be. That's 7.5 seconds on a 25 minute run, it's comparatively nothing.

Further fans on the flame you get more from the equipment's native stats than materia. And, if you should ever want to upgrade that equipment with coats, oils or what have you that materia is wasted as someone in another thread learned. I stack crit like it's gold, when I look at gear I look at how much more crit it has over what I have already. In all the gear that's been releasing since melding on non-crafted gear became a thing not once has materia been able to make up the difference, overmelded or not.

Append: Actually, on accessories materia can make up the difference, but that tends to be considerably more expensive than primary equipment to pull off.

A stat increase is a stat increase. Passing on free stats just means you don't really care about winning.

Also, I love how people say "I would love to meld but I don't wanna level a crafter." Apparently you don't want it bad enough.

It is way more then that.

Example for Paladins

Tier 4
Left side = 108 crit Right side = 35 str
33 attack power increase

with 850 base attack 3.88% increase


Tier 5
Left side = 144 crit Right side = 75 str
56 attack power increase

with 850 base attack 6.58% increase.


The question is why wouldn't you want to make your character stronger? Once again saying it doesn't make much of a difference isn't a good excuse if you want to play your class to the best you can at least do something that is easy and fill your materia slots. When I see people missing materia in DF I assume they don't care enough about their class.

What I noticed is about 9/10 people in DF did not put materia in their new 3.2 gear. It kind of bugs me because that is something everyone should be doing and you are only putting yourself at a disadvantage if you don't have materia since you are losing out on extra stats you could have. Makes the dungeon take longer too because you are doing less dps. Why is not using materia even a thing?

That is the exact reason I was hoping they never added them, because then, people feel like it becomes mandatory to do it. We didn't need it before, we still don't NEED it. Sure it's an increase or whatever, I agree with everything you say blah blah blah, doesn't mean I can't disagree with the overall mentality of "YOU SHOULD BE MELDING THEM BECAUSE IT'S THERE!!"

This is like the complete reverse of the relic mentality "You don't need the relic weapon as fast as possible, you were doing fine with the weapon 1 tier before, what is the problem?"
