    Tome Gear Upgrading and Materia

The question has been raised: what will happen to melded time gear upon upgrading it to 240? Will we keep or lose currently melded materia?

You lose all the materias, which is stupid. We need a way to remove materias from slots (and not breaking them).

Removing materia from gear without breaking them would crush the markets as there would be no real need anymore for materia. I don't mind the materia getting lost when removing the materia but... Keeping the materia when upgrading from 230 to 240 (or any ilvl really, as long as it's a direct upgrade) should be a thing. THAT WOULD BE TOO NICE NO? CANT HAVE THAT!

Technically, you're not really upgrading as much as trading up. That fresh, new piece of gear is no more related to what came before as a just started Relic is to a Zeta. The possibility of it keeping the materia is impossible. They'd have to do something akin to the late Relic steps and make the stats completely moldable in order for you to keep the materia. Relic armor... now that's an idea but, that's something for another thread. For now... don't meld unless you know it's something you're not going to be upgrading later.

That's too bad. But good to know. I'll hold off on any melding until I upgrade my pieces. Thanks

You should meld your gear with tier 4 because its basically free from dailies. Just save your tier 5 for 240 pieces.

It shouldn't because you are basically trading 1 piece of gear for a different one.

Well, when upgrading it, they call it Repairing don't they? So they could work around it. Sorry, "Reoutfitting" is the Eikon gear one. Same thing.
