    3 new companions

I don't understand why the "Companion" menu is called "Companion" instead of "Chocobo" since the chocobo is the only "Companion" in the game. I'll suggest some other possible companions:

Moogles: Besides the chocobos, moogles are the most popular creatures of Final Fantasy. I think they deserve to be companions. The Mooglesguard showed us that Moogles can also play war/magic disciplines. We could choose a clan (Gridania or Dravania, each one with some differences) and a discipline for them. As for the customization, they could change their colour like chocobos, and their hats. To unlock ranks, we could use Kupo Nuts which works like the Chocobo's Thavnairian onions.

Gnath: Since they have built an Aventurer's guild, this is my second option. A gnath from that Adventurer's guild. Customization? Well, this could be complicated. And to unlock ranks...

The Doman kids: The Doman kids from Mor Dhona. They want to be adventurers, and that's why they've created their own "Adventurer's guild". We can create one of those kids like we create a Retainer, and take them as our apprentices (companions). To unlock ranks, they could have their own quests where we help them to unlock the next rank. This last option could give the game a new sidequest line based on the training of the Doman kids.

I actually thought of something similar like this awhile ago when I was thinking why the chocos only magic was white magic when in games like choco dungeon he can do a wide variety of roles including black magic as well as other magics.

in a way... Chocos being the Paladin/White Mage/Monk
    Moogles can be... Warrior/Black Mage/Bard
    Gnath can be a Lancer/Machinist

but the doman kids? Hmmm.... They are far from fighting ready so... Maybe... help find items better?
and by items, I mean like the low drop rate from getting stuff like say atma or crystals from fates increase just a little and they can find consumable/crafting items from time to time

im not sure how chocobos are MNKs, they reward DRG armour

Also a rough guess as to why we don't have this is likely the same reason we don't have egi glamours. animations, skill trees etc. for this are a huge load on development time

ehh, only say monk because they attack with their feet (or beak) and have damage per tick moves although the other classes have damage per ticks.
Just wasn't sure to classify them as anything else because they don't pierce like dragoons or fight nimbly like ninjas as well as they don't have any long range moves

Like a lot of things in ARR, the 'companion' term is a legacy holdover from the original version of FFXIV (1.0) - there, as part of the original storyline when the player was recruited by Minfilia to her Scions predecessor organization the Path of the Twelve, the player was assigned a 'Path Companion' to assist them in missions given by the organization.

This companion was another npc adventurer, but unlike the chocobo companion system in ARR, they could not be called at any time by the player - instead they automatically appeared during certain story quests/battles and allowed players who were not a combat class (Disciple of the Hand or Land) to undertake the story - the Path Companion also acted as the player character's 'voice' during story cutscenes, what race and gender you selected for them determined what dialogue they would say and their personality traits.

Sadly the Path Companions were abandoned once Yoshi took over development (the 'Seventh Umbral Era' story in 1.0 that involved the lead up to the Calamity didn't even feature them at all), but it's likely some time during ARR's development they must have considered giving the player access to the Path Companions again, only to scrap the idea and use their chocobo mount as one instead, but left the tab for it listed as 'Companion' instead of 'Chocobo Fighter'.)

Either way, I miss the Path Companions and would love SE to bring them back.
