Are you against making old glamour sets and bits and bobs easier to craft, against removing the restriction from older PvP gear, against the removal of specialization requirement from some recipes?

Backwards way of thinking to say the least. No one is demanding it happen, it was a simple suggestion before someone posted a completely overblown response and then it went downhill from there.
Way to completely miss the point. it has zero to do with "I suffered so other people should suffer too." and for the record, I don't oppose all what you just said either. I already got it done, and SE obviously made content easier so new players can catch up, which is exactly the point of making old contents easier, so players can catch up.

It's more to do with the fact that people want free pass to melding just because raid (blue gears) have slots.

    To summarize:

Top crafted battle gears have always been meldable, but nobody bats an eye over it

SE makes raid (blue gears) meldable, and everyone loses their mind.

Thing is though, in order to meld every gears, you have to level just about every class (Except for culinary, there's no gears to meld using culinary). I feel it's a slap to the face if SE allowed everyone to meld, even if it's just for open slots. Only reason people want to have free pass to melding is because raiding gears have open slots.

It's not that hard to ask your friends and/or FC mates to meld for you, and I'm pretty sure most don't mind melding for people repeatedly. Of course you can shout, and most crafters are nice enough to do it for free, if not for TINY fee. (Seriously, it's just a flippin click of a button, so ANYONE that asks you to pay them for 250K gil is being an asshole, and refuse, vehemently.) Just keep shouting/asking in places like Idyllshire. There are a LOT of crafters out there.

Edit: Actually let me elaborate further.

For the longest time, there was hardly any reason for DoW and DoM to depend on crafters whatsoever, with the exception of food and medicine.

    Players can repair at NPC

Players don't NEED to buy crafted gears to be at their best.

Technically players don't even need to buy crafted gears to level. There's a lot of NPCs out there that sells crafted gears, but they can be pricey.

This is the ONE thing that DoW/DoM have where they can fully depend on crafters to help them out, and it is a VERY simple thing to ask for. (all you gotta do is to right click a player and hit request meld, and it's literally a click of a button and it's 100% workable. No RNG shenanigans. Overall this takes like 15 seconds per gear.)

However materia is very different, it's comparable to gemming and enchanting in WoW where you're considered a horrible player for not doing it, why? For one, it's easy to do, and second, it's a flat permanent buff to your DPS, not temporarily or costly like food or buffs. Don't have enough gil for grade V materia, that's fine, use IV until you can afford it.

I'm well aware that it's easy, I have several friends and plenty of people in the FC that are capable of doing it and I'm sure they'd be glad to, but the point was that it wouldn't hurt to allow an NPC to provide the services. People are acting like it would be the literal end of crafting, that this suggestion equates to removing crafting altogether, how much can one person possibly overreact? Then there's the people who think it would be a huge detriment to the social part of the game, which, again, is untrue as there's little to no friendships made from asking someone to meld something for you. I've even listed an advantage to an NPC being added, and yet people are acting as if it's going to kill crafting and that I might as well suggest the removal of healing classes.

It wouldn't be a problem if it was get one crafter to level 60, I'd be fine with it being changed to that, but to get several classes when quite a few people absolutely dread crafting? It's a bad system, people even suggested a crafted item that people can sell that allows people to meld items without having a crafter meaning more profits for them, yet it was still dismissed.

I wouldn't be asking for this adjustment if materia had been available in raid gear from the beginning. I would have sucked it up and lvled the jobs as I went. Now, suddenly, it is a requirement. I don't really want to face the prospect of leveling 4 jobs, one from lvl 40 and and 3 from lvl 15 to be able to do this myself. I've managed to take 6 jobs from 50-60 since HW came out. Do you really think this is taking something away from you, or do you oppose easing the melding requirement because you just don't want to see people without DoH having a way to do this?
I never said I was against removing the crafting requirement for guaranteed meld slots. I personally don't care either way. I'll meld for people that need it without charge, but not having to do it frees up my time.

My issue is the non-crafting sentiment that inevitably pops up any time they have to utilize a crafter in any way. Crafters are suddenly greedy bastards out to fuck everyone over. Look at all the threads after anima weapons dropped. Or the zodiac step. Or any time new glamour comes out. Or any time food prices spike after a new raid tier comes around. The list goes on.

I'm not gonna sit here and say crafters should have all dominion over materia and the filthy casual peons should bow down and fork over their gil. But, I'm also not gonna sit here and listen to people putting those words into all crafters' mouths.

That's an incredibly poor argument. It has no merit on its own.

To make all disciples part of the materia feature (designed with that idea back in 1.x)

DoM & DoW - produce the materias with spiritbinding gears
    DoL - gather the catalysts
DoH - meld materia into gear

it's the holy trinity of materia, supposed to make people work together

Not sure why this needed a second thread. And I still don't get it; it's an mmo what's so awful about having to interact with other players?

No one is asking raiders to level every craft to 60, but if you absolutely refuse to talk to other players then that's your only option. And if you choose to do that, leves make it fairly quick and painless to do; buy the turn-ins and you won't even have to craft! I personally think you'd have to be daft to do it that way, but whatever. At least the choice is there.

No one has said they can't get melds done and most crafters in both threads have said they are happy to meld for free.

This really does feel like complaining for the sake of it.

This was the first thread when you look at time of posting. That's really beside the point.

I hear you and agree. I've seen the price of goods, but I've also seen the price of the materials. If DoW/DoL really want cheaper foods and gear then perhaps they shouldn't be asking for outrageous sums for the mats in the first place. I don't blame the DoH for trying to make the best of the hand that they're dealt. If I REALLY wanted the top tier foods or glamours I would level the requisite jobs no matter how tedious because there would be a reason for doing so. Materia melding on raid gear on the otherhand...I just can't see how allowing the rest of us to do our own melds on this would hurt the DoH community.

Worst economy system? In a game where everything can be bought and sold? Are you kidding me? This game offers you the most freedom I've ever seen in MMO. Yes it inflates the market, but guess what : it's still a game.

[QUOTE=Belhi;3594826]Best solution to me would be to create an NPC that charges to attach materia and doesn't do overmelds. Have them charge say 200 gil per tier of Materia. 1000 gil for a one of meld is hardly asking a great deal. Repair bill can often add up to that.

    QUOTE]

I'm sorry but the only thing I saw in your post is people being unable to communicate or being social. If they don't need people around them why are they playing a MMO? Most crafters do the melds for free or for very little fee. If said people don't have the ability to shout in the correct area then I don't know what to say.

Correct, that was the original reason, and at the time it made really good since, but I stand by my point that there are so many things that crafters take part in, like making the catalysts for glamorous (just one example) that I hope we can move away from this old idea. (Again, at the time it was great, but now I don't think it's needed)

Still. I wouldn't mind saying, anyone can meld to open slots, but if you want to advance meld, then you'll need the crafter discipline to do so.
