My Thoughts and prayers are with you Japan in this hour of need. I wish you a speedy recovery from this horrific disaster. I sincerely hope that the nuclear situation can be contained and the damage limited as much as is possible.

Don't apologize for bringing the servers down. This was an act of Nature nothing could have foreseen or prevented it.

Its okay you dont need to apologize. Shutting down servers probably helped,i feel terrible about everything in japan. The earthquake, fires, tsunami, and radiation leak. This is a very big disaster and i hope you guys will be getting back on your feet soon.

Hi, I haven't read anything in the thread and I just created an account for the purpose of this post:

I hope that everyone that was in the ffxi/ffxiv/SE offices in Japan is okay! I don't know where those offices are located.

I really admire the choice to put social responsibilities in front anything else at this time. This may seem obvious to someone but it's not to me, especially nowadays. So don't apologize for this is something to be proud of, and for what is worth all my hopes are with yours in these terrible days.

Waiting for good news I wish you to stay safe and a quick recover.

First let me say that i have already donated to the Red Cross for Japan and i hope that everyone finds shelter before that storm hits on top of what has already happend. And i do agree with what they did bringing down the servers.
Second i feel that if SE realizes its going to be some time before Japan recovers enough to stop cycling power and get the servers running the might move the servers temperarely to somewhere that can support them ex Germany or the USA, SE is still a business and needs to generate some form of income. The way the stock market is plumeting they need to get some sort of cash flow going to stablize help stablize the economy.

How are they going to make any substantial amount of money on a game they aren't charging monthly service fees on? That makes no sense. The only way would be if new people bought the game which isn't/wasn't really happening anyways. They would be losing loads of money rather than making anything by spending the money to move the servers and maintain the game.

IMO that's a good idea. Far as I know FFXI is also affected, and does require a monthly fee to play. I have a feeling the servers won't be back up for quite some time, especially since the nuclear power plant situation is worsening day by day.

I was talking more about FFXI which generates around 600k a month income for SE, that is a huge chuck to be taken away from a company. I fugure about 50k people still play FFXI, times the 12.99 monthly fee(dont know if it still 12.99 it was when i played)

I think for some its 12.99 for others its around 7. I remember back when FFXI used to make a mil a month. Those days are over tho since FFXIV came out and a lot more up to date MMO's. No mmo can compare to the quality of FFXI tho, but I think FFXIV is heading in the right direction.
