Weird, it's like they didn't want you to have a monopoly on the new i220 gear that's craftable weeks ahead of when others can acquire it. That's wild.

It's inconvenient and can be difficult to be at the apex of crafting for the split second these patches drop. It being difficult or inconvenient is hardly a reason to complain when you consider what the capabilities are. We're talking several millions of Gil in profit here, cutting into the overhead by either socializing or purchasing the mats is reasonable.

This is the direction I believe SE wants to go in. the time where we can make everything ourselves is closing into an end, just need to adapt
    It really isn't that bad.

or just make the material is not locked behind specialist, and just lock the recipe for end item, its fine.

i REALLY REALLY hope SE just doing this specialization bullcrap in star recipe and not normal recipe even for the future (4.0 anyone?). if they doing specialization lock in normal recipe, well, goodbye then.

Starred recipes are normal recipes though. They're just harder (as indicated by their star, and their craft/control req's) to do than their simple level would indicate.

    This, pretty much.

The funny thing about LTW is that it has a crafted mat too. Not a BSM specialist? Put up an offer in PF to trade eikon leather for high mythrite ingots. Chances are there's someone out there who needs the leather for a non-LTW craft. Or just make some of your mat, sell it, and use the proceeds to buy the mats you can't make. Problem solved.

This is really only an issue for the bleeding-edge, first couple of days market before things stabilize, where the other mats may not be available at reasonable prices yet. And well, they've made it pretty clear that one person being unable to have the server-first everything for sale is by design.

The problem for me is that while I dislike it I can somewhat accept the current trend of specialist only then the next patch the old specialist recipes being unlocked. What I don't understand is the supposed point of specialists is to be able to not need everything else in order to craft effectively yet so far it seems to be the polar opposite. Why should a LTW specialist need 3 other specializations (impossible on one char) to craft anything? Especially given how much of a pain it is to get to 3* requirements. I enjoyed being an omnicrafter and while I have plenty of friends and we help eachother out I enjoyed being able to help someone with anything they may have needed.

This is an exaggeration, but there's still a point there. "3 other specializations to craft anything" would be true if every recipe required all three cross-class mats. No individual recipe requires all three, but almost all of them do require at least one.

With the specialized mat recipes, it feels like they are tuning the specialization system to involve a meta for combinations of specialties. I for example am a LTW/WVR/GSM specialist, which means there are certain recipes I can make from scratch and others I cannot. A LTW/BSM/CUL specialist will have a different set of recipes that they can do all on their own.

In a sense, the specialist requirement for crafted mats *does* level the playing field a little for people who don't have all of the crafting jobs maxed out. Someone who has LTW at 3 star capable and doesn't have GSM leveled at all would have to buy eikon iron ingots whether they're a specialist recipe or not. Making it a specialist recipe puts that player on a more even footing with an omnicrafter who happens not to be a GSM specialist. If they really wanted to support making single-class crafting viable as a standalone thing, they'd make specialist versions of the recipes that involved no cross-class mats at all, but it looks like they're going for the version that forces trade instead.

I'd like to sympathize, but I had to form a partnership with a leatherworker to make my weaver stuff and it's turned into one of the best and most profitable things I've done in this game.

Just try to make friends and work with people yo. That's the beauty of specializations.

Alternatively you can just sell eikon leather because lots of other crafts need it and then use that gil to get what you need.
