You are forgetting the whole part where this is a videogame, so the point of playing is to have fun.

The reason there are so few tank players in contrast to other roles (even healers) is because tanking is not fun when you feel like your character hits like a wet noodle and is at the complete mercy of other party members to even take down trash mobs, let alone adds that spawn during a boss encounter.

WHM can obliterate trash mobs with Holy while healing. Why can't a PLD do the same with some useful AoE damage? It's poor game design and shows the developers don't understand why people play melee characters. They gave us special lion and bear mounts instead of just upping damage, which would have addressed the issue.

Not to mention, for a PLD to even get to end-game tanking they need to go through levels 1-60 of soloing quests, many of which require the PLD to fight groups of enemies during story battles. They are extremely frustrating experiences due to low DPS output. Compare it to, say, a Dragoon or a Summoner or White Mage who can clear these same challenges with absolute ease.

I had absolutely no issue on soloing every quest I had without dozing off on my controller for long kills.
Exactly like your example on "PLD can't solo Alexandrite maps", the issue is probably not with the job...

Before the damage nerf I could pretty much just be in Shield Oath for 2 RoH combos and then stay in Sword Oath for the rest of the fight. After 3.2 I find that enmity starts creeping up on you if you do GB RA RA rotations at an alarmingly fast rate. I have yet to lose hate in single target, but I felt forced to go back into tank stance. It was weird, I'm not sure if it raises or lowers the skill cap. I'd say it raises it, but the reward for doing it isn't very high anyways

Ok, I know some people are probably pissed that "tanking out of tank stance" took a hit, but for me, it's a good thing.
And it's not because it's the "intended" thing but because it would allow precise adjustement for OT and MT separately.

Until now, changing Sword Oath or Deliverance (or anything only accessible out of Grit) would affect MT too.
And since DPS gap will probably be less meaningful now, the usefulness of eeach tank as OT is coming back to the front.

Shouldn't the tanks be happy about the enmity generation being lowered? I know it is a paradox, but a lot of tanks were worried that tanking would be too much easy without dpsing, so now they should be happy, shouldn't they?

I disagree, simply because the enmity generation is the least fun thing as a tank even if its the most important.

Imho as tank the priority list is enmity 1st -> positionning -> mitigation --> dps last.

The fun stuff list is dps or mitigation (depends of people) 1st -> positionning -> getting enmity.

Why enmity last? Because you get enmity from combos which are usually boring (i.e. our DRK combo which does not replenish MP for moar fun later) or spamming unleash/AD like a no brainer.

Nerfing enmity would always be a bad move imho since it impacts the most important and least fun thing to do (damn i dont thing like spamming more aggro combo or unleash is fun at all). Difficult to understand for a job which can still be very fun thx to toolkit diversity.

    My 2 cents though.

Eveyone unhappy about tank changes, or other things they feel like they have no voice in, should post to support SE conducting player surveys after every patch. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...er-Every-Patch

Big DPS is always fun but I like feeling like a cement block covered in iron when I play a Tank, that's always the main thing. It's a defensive role first and foremost and should remain that way. So I'm cool with thes changes

Well since the patch im pretty much only using my tank for static progression. Everything else im just doing with my monk now since its way faster.
