I really think it was the earquake. Its only enviromental desaster at an apocalipse scale( we can guess it was a very powerfull one and that it lasted for a very long time ) that could cause that place to become a desert. I'ts hardly for me too see how a flood could cause it.

I'd doubt the Great Flood, too. Like I said in my other post, the area seems ravaged by an ancient earthquake, still to this day, too.

Excellent. Oh man, I wasn't expecting more news on the Lore Book so soon!

I think what I'm most curious about is artwork - is it going to be illustrated, ala The World of Ice and Fire and that new WoW book? Or is it going to be primarily text?

There's calamities every X years? Man that sounds really depressing. Almost like the War of the Magi in Final Fantasy VI repeated over and over. I blame the Ascians. They always cause everything.

Wonderful work Ferne! Thank you for these new especially tantalizing new lore snippets. In particular, I noticed in the answer to the last question, you mentioned something which seems to confirm something else that I've long wondered about - does photography exist in modern-day Eorzea?

(remember, this is a time early in the 6th Astra Era when there are not photographs, formal education for the masses is relatively non-existent, and much information was passed down via religious services).

So, reading between the lines here, there was not photography early in the 6th Astral Era, but, there is in the 'present day'? So, will we ever see said photographic technology? *pictures the soultrapper cameras from FFXI and chuckles* Or am I seeing something that isn't actually there and just being a silly cat?

Anyway, thank you again for your tireless efforts bringing Hydaelyn to life like this. *Eagerly awaits the upcoming 'lore encyclopedia'*

But this really brings me orther doubts.

Was that sculptor so ignorant and lazy? Couldnt just spend 2 minutes to ask Hraesvelgr how Shiva really looked?

We now know that there were humans living on the Churing Mists and the Forelands when the dragonsong war started. Also that Ishgard is even more older than the stories we have heared at the begining, so on those times there were a lot of people that didnt have Thordan and his knights 's blood.

What happened to all of them? Did Nidhogg killed most of them?

Even if thats was Nidhogg did. Can we assume that , not knowing why they were so brutally attaked on the colonies after 200 years of peace plus the false story of the remaining Knights about "Dragons started this, we are inoccent". Well can say that is proabably what happened. But is still a lot of people, far more than just 7. Hard for me to believe that after 1 thousand years, what could have started as a false tale to avoid the guilt, ending being something VERY different, like the older history never existed on the first place. There has to be at least some people ,appart from the Archobishop and assosiates, who at least knew that the tale of Ishgard's foundation was a lie ( not about how the war truly started but how Ishgard was actually founded )

The Allagans did their research, and some of that is just now being uncovered by Garlean and Eorzean scholars.

The problem with Eorzea is that every time civilizations rise, they are not merely toppled by another, but literally wiped of the face of the planet by the Calamities. This 'reset' button undoes everything that came before, impeding mankind's progress into learning its past. Civilizations spend so much time trying to get back on their feet after each Calamity, that by the time they get to a point where they can start accurately delving into the past, it's time for another disaster.

This reminds me of a thought I've been having lately. Namely the city-states in present-day Eorzea got really f***ing lucky during the Seventh Calamity. Yes, they endured some damage, but compared to previous disasters, they should be thanking the Twelve they came through with their civilization more or less intact.
