The invisible walls in Idyllshire are likely there to prevent problems from occurring when the zone is updated every patch.
Ahh, I didn't even think of this but it makes sense. Imagine if the platform you were standing on was replaced by an entire building that is now sitting on your character, lol. That'd be an awfully rude thing to login to. :3
Aside from the edges of cliffs I and flying off somewhere I don't notice walls very often. Most of the areas in the game are structured well enough that the walls you run into are physical. (That said if you're climbing weird stuff then you're probably going to run into stuff. Get down from there!)
Yes, I loved how you could fall for an eternity in Outlands while playing WoW and then have to take the spirit healer res because you couldn't run to your body >.>.
I like the way invisible walls were handled in FFXIV, we have some jumping down to 1HP that people like; but things that instantly kill you, like if you jump off of the world map, will not let you try.
If you force to go in invisible wall, this is what happen.

Kessler Larael / Alesana Gardeneau / Sierra Alpha / Moko Tarou
[Coeurl Army]
Raeleighn Corinthian / Riley Renault
[Balmung Hobos]
6 characters, 1 massive idiot
Coerthas Central Highlands, East Shroud, Outer La Noscea, Eastern La Noscea, Mor Dhona, Northern Thanalan...
Skypony has seen them all! I miss this. We used to spend hours exploring outside the map.
Sadly players used some of those areas to do fates uncontested which is why they no longer can be explored. I remember going over to North Than and seeing fate bosses getting killed from underneath, kinda creepy the first time I seen it, but then when I learned about, fairly enjoyed going out there for a few screenshots.
