That's not entirely true. Coil had it's own independent story but it tied into the Main Scenario beginning with the ending credits for ARR after you clear the last story dungeon for 2.0. They've deviated from that for Heavensward because the "Story" (if you want to call it that) has been linked to the easy mode raid as opposed to the actual End Game raiding.Theres a big difference between WoW and XIV though in the fact that wow tells it's story through its raids.
XIV story is just that, the story. The end game raid doesn't tie in to that.
If XIV was like WoW, we would be beat t13 and that would've been the end of the ARR story and the end of HW story would be us beating Alexander.
6/10 has troll potential but needs works.
The reason the story is more stand alone now compared to 2.0 linked to the Coil is you had people beg Square for years to include a story mode for the Coil and people who couldn't clear the Coil would just not bother anymore and watch the cutscenes online. The devs want more people doing end game raiding instead of just not doing it and watching it all online, so they tried to cater to both camps and...yeah.That's not entirely true. This is like complaining that the season you finished watching of your show didn't wrap everything up entirely.
MMO Storylines are more like Seasonal shows, they contain the same base characters, plot devices, narative lead and so on but the story is ever evolving due to a necessity to...not end.
Do you get mad when a TV show ends their season on a big cliff hanger because they assume you'll be watching the next season?
It's how MMOs work. If you aren't going to go all the way to the most recent expansion, there's no reason to even play.
If it makes you feel any better though, Heavensward doesn't even have an ending atm. There's a conclusion just the same as there is a conclusion to the leveling story, but it still goes on. MMO stories generally never truly end until the game dies.
Well of course HW doesn't have an ending...we've only had 1 major patch so farIt's how MMOs work. If you aren't going to go all the way to the most recent expansion, there's no reason to even play.
