    Lore reasons are not viable anymore. Anyone who has done the main story would realize that. Basically the primals aren't even the real primals, but aethyric figments of them. There's no reason a summoner couldn't use that to make a better representation of the primal (aka looks cooler). They are masters of the Aetherflow after all.

    But.. we won't see it till the PS3 version ceases support. So all those PS3 players, encourage them to upgrade. When they all do, that's when we get the cool stuff.
    My favorite "Lore" defense was when people would talk about how it took a Beast Tribe High Priest Grand Maester Uber-Summoner to summon a Primal through some complex ritual and we should be happy that we can summon our Egi after going through the quests, and then Gilgamesh summons Enkidu just by saying "I miss my bro" next to a crate of crystals. Really makes me feel like all the time I spent mastering my craft was worth it.

    Nah, the real reason is cuz SMNs are trying to build a primal using nothing but a geometry textbook. It's no wonder they look a bit off!

    Regardless of the lore, the real reason the summons are not like ffxi (sadly) was because the servers couldn't handle countless players with summons running around a field together, which I understand given how detailed they are.

    HOWEVER this isn't 2.0 anymore, when everyone and their mother was an ast. Even if they changed the looks the increase in smn players would be fairly small. I'd think it's reasonable to change them now with some lore excuse which is easy enough to generate.

    Although it would be awesome if they were close as the originals as possible (and still fairly unrealistic in terms of the games tech), they can be ALOT more detailed then they are now.

    It was never a server issue, it was a engine issue and how they render the 3D models...

    Really the same difference. If the engine is giving difficulties it will be the server being the one who is stressed. Even with the engine being "fixed" I highly doubt the servers could keep up with the given limitations.

    Just look how Revenant's Toll and Idyllshire are with mounts.

    That said, the new Sephirot trial summons egi of himself, so we can see they're still capable of making models.

    One abbreviation: PS3. PS3 can't handle a ton of models on the screen, and having a full sized summon may take up the same amount of data as another player character, hence the reduced size and graphics.
