As a Paladin main I have a similar beef with my fellow tank in 8-mans. In my latest example I got Garuda HM in a trial roulette, and I'll start by hopping into Shield Oath because I was expecting to tank. Then my Paladin co-tank does the same, he pops Shield Oath. So I think "Oh okay, he wants to tank this. I'll just stick to Sword Oath and dps then. No problem." So I switch to Sword Oath. As everyone is buffed up and ready with Protect, Stoneskin, Adlo and you name it, my co-tank doesn't move an inch. He's just standing there in Shield Oath waiting. After about half a minute or so I swap back to Shield Oath and pull, and the guy comes after and begins dpsing with his Shield Oath still active... I've seen some Dark Knights do this while still in Grit as well.

    Ugh. >_<

My personal opinion about that is that Tanks have a huge ego fight. Everyone wants to be in the lights and get commendations, that's why I don't play tank in Raids that need two tanks, except if the other tank is on my FC and we are on Teamspeak, so we can discuss who's tanking, tanking swap and this kinda of stuff. I say that because yesterday I gave a shot - and I wanted the glamour - so I played PLD in Labyrinth of the Ancients and as PLD I was expecting to be the main tank, given the fact that we don't have enough DPS to be OT, and the other tank was DRK, which has a higher DPS input to be OT. We kept discussing the whole run about that... then, I decided from that day - as if it happened like 10 years lol - to run tank only with FC mates. I ended up getting three commendations, even thou I was OTing with my almost non-existence DPS.

Tanks who lag behind the group. DPS who run ahead of the group. Healers who do both.

I get this constantly in daily trials too. I have zero cares if I MT or OT - but the OT needs to be in DPS stance. So when the other tank asks me to MT, yet sits there in tank stance, it drives me insane. Then they say "well I need to stay in tank stance in case you die and I need to take over" - because apparently Provoke doesn't exist in this game or something.

You can see if a NIN has huton up or not, so if they are doing something before I have started running and they lack that buff then chances are they are throwing said buff. And ya since I have a nin at 60 I know how that buff looks on your bar.
That said, in DF, especially dungeons, there is no need for a perfect opener from the sec a tank grabs the boss, not like the boss fight will take that much longer, a few seconds at most. Which at any rate is less then if a range ninjapulls the boss, in which case melee and tank will have to pay the price with a messed up opener. When going as drg or nin I have had way more openers messed up by triggerhappy range then by a tank.

Today duty finder matched me with a fellow tank who decided he was going to main tank, but just... didn't need oaths. That was pretty confusing.

If it were level sync'd could be a bot. I've noticed a few bots who will run at mobs as paladin w/o an oath.
