    As a single class player, I level other roles merely to get into roulettes faster/help friends, the esoteric system was fine to me. But I'm not the entire playerbase. Having unique gear at least on an archetype basis would be the best compromise I agree, though Squeenix have kind of trapped themselves with DRG/MNK. Both use strength but one wears "leather/cloth" and the other "mail/leather".

    What will likely happen, is they will add more DPS to the game, and likely those DPS will share - just as MCH shared with BRD.

    If I had to guess, SAM will share with DRG. I don't see them taking SAM into a light-armor role. It also makes sense - Polearms and Katanas are a favored weapon of Samurai, so having it share the same armor class with the lance-wielder makes sense to me.

    That's my assumption, too, or else raid drops will start to get really messy. To be honest, they probably should have left MNK and NIN combined as they are for pre-2.4 gear, as it's going to get pretty weird down the line since there aren't really any iconic jobs left that would fit with either MNK or NIN's armor. There's Dancer, which we'll probably see someday, which could go on Scouting or Striking, but that's really about it, unless they come up with something whole cloth.

    Given that so many of the MNK/NIN sets are just palette-swaps of each other anyway, I have a hard time reconciling why they felt the split was necessary. At one time, I reasoned that, since all of the melee had essentially the same stat priorities, they gave them separate sets so that they wouldn't always be competing over the same pieces of gear (and ultimately, looking exactly the same). At the time, PLD and WAR wanted different stats to a degree, BLM/SMN had different priorities, and so did both healers.

    With the buff to Criticial Hit Rate, though, that doesn't really hold true anymore in most cases (with the exception of BLM's preference for Spell Speed). Just about everybody wants Crit as a focus now, so the rationale I thought they had initially doesn't really hold up as well.
