The number of dungeon runs and comms isn't that high if you did 2.0 relic to zeta.
I also hate tanking...but I still took my PLD all the way because I wanted to understand it better. It certainly helps me with my healing and DPS when I know what the tank is doing (or supposed to be doing, or what they could be doing).

I think that was more the point of "have each of the roles fully leveled". I mean certainly if someone comes to me and goes "I wanna main a tank have any tips" I'll probably give general info then say "But over here this person is a main tank and they can help you with specifics".

I don't know about you but I think the excitement of what's gonna pop out of DF can be really fun. Will my party suck? Will I be able to take a nap while fighting? Will I get a trial for Leveling roulette and be done with it for free 200,000+ XP or will I get The Vault and probably cry the whole way? Will my party members be fun and talkative, or quiet and efficient, or complete jerks? Will I laugh at someone's username? Etc

The game is only as exciting and fun as you make it.

And yeah, if you just joined you aren't going to have a lot of comms or runs anyway. I'd hardly say I was ready to mentor people after two months, regardless of how many jobs I had leveled at that point or how perfect my rotation was....
Oh hell no, I wouldn't FATE grind. I'm at 0/18 relic crystals. Whenever I ran into a snag where MSQ didn't level me enough I did have to turn to the leveling roulette. Then I hit 60 and never touched it again... until I realized that I needed DRG34 for b4b. I was lucky to have a friend let me leech leves for a lot of it while I AFKed playing an actual fun game, but I did get stuck doing some physically painful roulettes for the remainder. But after THAT hell I am absolutely never going back to the torture of dungeon grind.

hmmm ive been playing since 2.0 and have taken half year long breaks from the game and i have about 900 dungeons cleared

i really dont do dungeons that much so i dont understand why that is so bad

personally i don't understand the point of the system. i have not looked into it, but there are plenty of people out there who have cleared plenty of content and have plenty of commendations and are not really what people would want to call or look up to as mentors.

You don't even get any reward for being a Mentor. It's meant for seasoned players that want to help new players, and have the experience to show for it. Think about it like this; No one would hire a teacher without a proper educational background. I know I wouldn't. Although I feel it slightly silly that they made having 1 of each role at 60 a requirement, it still means that you have advice to offer on each of the roles.

Besides, not being a mentor doesn't mean you can't help new players.

Often get comms even as a DPS so i'm not sure what some people are saying, Sure. Tank/Healer might get em more often but don't act like DPS never get comms cause i've got plenty by playing a DPS class lol.

And I think what people have to realize is that you're getting a healer to L60 AND a tank to L60. That's a LOT of comms you're going to be getting. Even if you're a DPS who claims that you never get any comms, you will get a massive amount by playing tank. Trust me, I started healer then went DPS for a good year and a half.

When I started tanking and got to L50, I had tripled my commendations, easily. And you might think "oh well you had forever to play that" -- nope, started tanking in patch 2.55. Hitting the bare minimum ESO cap for a few weeks will guarantee you more comms than you know what to do with.

i don't understand this mentor system. i have 2700 commendations and run 3700 dungeons - almost all of them with my white mage. i can be a healer-mentor. but i don't have a DPS at 60. i have lvled one tank but i am still a newbie-tank. so if i lvl one dps to 60 i can be a mentor? but i have no idea about dps and tank classes. and also i am german and i can't explain things well in english and i don't speak french at all. if i choose only german for mentor roulette but the other people all the languages...

...not sure how this will work in the end xD

Joined after 3.0. Serious player. Have 4 classes – DPS (NIN), Healer (WHM, SCH) and Tank (DRK) at 60, all appropriately geared. Now working on BLM 52. All other DoW and DoM classes at higher than 30 (have every soul crystal). All these classes I played really seriously and try to master their rotations, ins and outs, etc. I have Dungeon Master achievement since I really like running dungeons, especially the lower level ones which people tend to forget or take for granted. Got close to 1000 comms due to my experience as healer and tank. Knowing all 3 roles definitely made me better at each one.

When I was working in an Apple factory in my teens, all "leads" have to know every station along the production line. I guess the same principle applies here.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I grown to hate commendations and would refuse them if I could. They're used too often as a passive-aggressive form of criticism if the tank doesn't play like someone wants, even if the tank knows best what he's capable of. I don't need my performance graded, thanks.

    edit*

I've leveled an alt to 50 mostly through DF grinding as a warrior, and I've only received 62 commendations total. I very seriously doubt I'll gain an additional 238 in a mere ten levels. Not sure if the premise of this thread has merit.
