No, guys, it is NOT okay. Not in any sort of situation! Just because someone 'pays for the game' or 'it doesn't affect you' it doesn't mean that it is okay. First of all, they screw up the economy. Sometimes the MB pisses me off real bad. Second, they quickly achieve what other players strive for for days/months. And then you find yourself in a dungeon with someone who has everything up to 60 but.. He still can't play. Go figure. The game is meant to be played by players, not bots (even when a person pays for the bot to play, jesus fuck). It is cheating and brings imbalance, as well as it poops on those who actually try. It's common sense.
Edit: The reasons behind the usage of bots are various. The best way to deal with this issue in general is to make it all challening to get in different ways (as less RNG as possible, Imho). But then again, you can't get the best for no effort. You get what you deserve/work for (unless you are a bot))))))).

I used to report these guys(actual players botting, not rmt) a lot. Then I noticed that these players would never get punished and just stopped caring. I'll still report anyone I see teleporting around but that's about it.
I agree OP, and it's the people who keep buying from Gil Sellers that are equally as guilty for ruining the gaming experience for us
Currently, the BOTs are directly hooking into the FFXIV process and take control over it.
Long time ago, there was something about an undocumented API. That could be the entry for them.
If not, maybe stuff like ASLR, DEP and/or SafeSEH could help something.

This game is at a point where some players feel like "if you cant beat em, join em."
I blame WoW for a lot of our third party woes.
Might not be a bot, it might be a multiboxer using a keyboard cloner. Not sure SE's stance on Multiboxing, I know other companies allowed it as long as a person was sitting there playing. In this case, OP might have seen a boxer or a botter. No way to really tell.
I wouldn't blame WoW. Botting has been around long before WoW. Even Diablo 2 had bots, even UO. I'd just blame lazy people that don't want to play but just want to cheat.
Ah, WoW. I played on a PvP server, and I used to mind control botters and throw them off a cliff.
Regarding the economy the same could be said about crafters using keyboard/mouse macros in their private room. Especially regarding buff food, potions and other stackable stuff.
I don't see an easy approach to stop them from doing so.
