There are 8 crosshotbars shared and 8 not shared, total 16. I don't speak about the weapons.

    Put something in crosshotbar 5
Then do "/crosshotbar share 5 on"
Put something else in crosshotbar 5
Now switch between the 2 crosshotbar 5 with "/crosshotbar share 5 off" and "/crosshotbar share 5 on"

I was hoping the beta topics were in the 1.0 archives but it appears there not.

Back in beta though there was a pretty popular topic about the cross hotbar and ways to improve it, with some really nice nad interesting ideas, It was said there that simply adding more and more complex button combos to increase skills wouldn't be ideal. there was one idea I came up with which a lot of people seemed to like and it was something I was hoping I could do myself with the addon support that was promised. it was a redesign of the cross hot bar system that had 3 groups of 4 skills on each side of the hotbar instead of 2 and used the buttons to trigger skills and the d-pad to change groups or sets.

It allowed 24 skill slots per hot bar instead of 16 and much faster cycling of hotbars. I might sketch a quick diagram later and put it up. was hoping to find the thread though as there was a lot of good ideas and stuff there.

The 2.0 beta topics had their own fourms, iirc.
I even remember drawing up a pretty bad animated diagram for a suggested improvement of the cross hotbar. Those were the days.

Swapping between bars can throw someone off and while the expanded cross bar is very good it's only a limited solution to problems such as playing a SMN/SCH/DRG/PvP effectively.

Hell, I'm slightly envious that we barely have the room for pots. So I would personally welcome a re-work of the cross hotbar.

Forgive my amazing skills in ms paint but here we have the idea I came up with in beta plus a few improvements others did suggest back then can't remember names though. apologies

The basic concept was each side of the hotbar has 12 slots not 8 allowing you to assign 24 skills per set, (a 50% increase)

How it works wouldn't be too different to how the current model works you hold either L2 or R2 and press the corresponding button. the only real difference is that using left and right on the dpad would change the highlighted box.

It was suggested that up and down could also change sets which would mean that you have 20 possible hotbar slots that are at most 2 button presses from your last selected action. and could reduce time spent juggling triggers and sets massively.

part of my original thinking was for things like monk where you could group all your opo, raptor and coerl moves together and simply rotate groups.

I also think it would be a better idea than adding more slots requiring massive button combos to trigger. and as I mentioned earlier I was also hoping this would be possible with the addons feature they were meant to implement.

Not sure that would allow for the same split second reflexes that the current system does. It could work perfectly fine though since me being so use to the current system gives me a preaty heavy bias on the system.

The paint thing gave me a idea on what I meant by corner macros, like this.

Have the macro transparent but you can see it blacked out then when you hit L2 and corner wise it brings up the skill I wouldn't know if that would be so great with the circle X square triangle buttons but left up down right would be perfect.

Then again might miss fire a macro so probably not such a good idea lol I was thinking along the lines of street fighter style buttons idk where my head is right now.

primary problem with that is that the d-pad already has a completely separate function not tied to movement, so street fighter style buttons wouldnt work.
on a different note, i have gone thru every live letter and article i could find, but the double cross hotbar never came up once. where did you even hear about it?

Hotbar shortcuts are for what you need to access quickly. You can do a ready call, check your team status or FC page by the xmb like menu.
Same for config, HUD, macros menu, etc...

You also don't need to have Bestiary for your crafters/gatherers, Fishing log for anything but fisher, craft log for anything but crafters, etc...5 shared hotbars is HUGE.
