might be worth starting off with Marauder or Arcanist up to level 10 then switching over to Rogue which plays close to monk.

(Sadly you need to be level 10 to start the Rogue quests)

Arcanist and Marauder will put you in the same city as Rogue so you can pick it up as soon as you hit level 10

You'd want ACN or MRD since they both start in Limsa, and you can't get to Limsa until level fifteen in the story, so if you want to do rogue before that at level ten, you'd have to BE in Limsa

Personally I like NIN >>>>>>>>>> MNK but yes, it's fast-paced melee attacks. Not as strong as MNK but they offer more utility and faster speed.
