Gear from exclusive ranks of the GC will be mostly able to be traded.Currently the three different Grand Companies have rewards as far as weapons and some armor directed only at certain classes. The problem is the weapons in each don't make sense currently unless SE plans to make it where each Grand Company will have all gear types available to purchase with seals but have their own special designs and different stats.
So this is a question to SE of how is this going to be handled? Will all Grand Companies have access to all types of gear or will it be only certain types of weapons and armors per Grand Company? I chose from the start of the game that I wanted to be a part of Limsa Lominsa but me being an Archer will I not be able to buy special weapons for my class or upcoming job because I am not allied to Uldahs Grand Company? This is going to be a big deal for a lot of players since there would be no point in choosing to go with LL if I cannot get the rewards for my class.
Problem solved (from Bayonne or one of the other reps after 1.18 was released, you can search for it if you'd like).
It will work like conquest rewards did in XI, the only company specific items are going to be stuff dealing with you relationship with the company and equal across companies. They are not going to lock players into one company for the rest of the game and cut them off from the possible rewards they might want from another...
Yet in recent Dev posts they said choose wisely because once you choose a faction you are in it for a long while, they are only thinking of adding something which means they probably will allow you to change factions down the road. Problem is we have no idea how long we will be locked out because they said our other seals will be frozen and thinking of a way to use them later on. You still face the dilemma of what to do at first.Gear from exclusive ranks of the GC will be mostly able to be traded.

Exactly, no one can say for sure either way.
their going to have to its unfair not to and i feel that the vendors will be pre raid gear bought with seals like the vendors from wow...with raid gear being better but vendor gear being good enough to get into the raid...
Being that I enjoy playing all classes, this is relevant to my interests.
I like frog
I'm Past caring lol. It will either be good, bad or passable..
It's been asked and ignored enough times that we will probably find out in the patch notes or after its live now.
I wanted to start in Gridania, So i picked an archer Sotm as it all fitted with the zone/lore.
They then stuck the bow in the UL company (which i think its *badwords* ) it made no sense really, and the justification of spreading things out is very weak imo.
Very odd way to look at it is like the GC's are telling the npcs that protect them to go join the other citys GC's(An yes I'm being silly with that point but it works so meh!)
I would have chose Musketeer if they was available at launch but since that was not the case I chose another ranged class that my abilities would convert over to when we finally get the ability to level up Musketeer. LL called out to me but isn't the most suitable for Archer. Owell. Back to my OP, hopefully we will hear something over the next couple days.I'm Past caring lol. Do what I'm doing, join Maelstrom then hoarde all the guild seals whilst waiting for musketeer to be released. Once it is you can buy anything and everything your GC will have to offerI would have chose Musketeer if they was available at launch but since that was not the case I chose another ranged class that my abilities would convert over to when we finally get the ability to level up Musketeer. That's assuming that's where it will be though. The archery guild is in Gridania but bows come from the Immortal Flames right now, and the thaumaturgy guild is in Ul'dah but their scepters come from the Maelstrom. For all you know they'll add musketeer but make guns be purchased with flame seals.
All of that is exactly why they need to rethink all rewards for a certain class coming from a single company.
