Well I mean the animal is..you know..the animal for the zodiac of the year.

This year monkey so butt monkey helmets, haha.

Also butts are very funny in Japan.
Pretty much this. OP is just trying to continue the complaints about "China gets X, so I want X too!" without understanding why something exists and why something else doesn't. Such as the generic kabuto being... oh I don't know... for a future Samurai job. The one in the image holds no New Years significance at all. Likewise the outfit that China gets is not a New Years thing by implication. The cheongsam is simply an elegant Chinese dress that is commonly worn for events (like New Years, weddings, fancy old school dates, etc). Red being the color to ward off evil spirits from ruining the occasion. None of that represents anything about New Years for the west nor Japan.

    Oh?

So what about all the Chinese Immigrants who came to the US and stayed? The US for example has no real culture, its a mix of thousands of them. I don't understand the logic, maybe someone wants to celebrate it here?

However this isn't about just that. I just don't see why they bothered making the helmets.

I guess? It seems rather silly, I guess I will just ignore it. Like everyone else.

No I mean it literally is FFXIV tradition.
Not yours...mine...America's (???) or Japan's for that matter.
    It's a FFXIV tradition.

Actually first was the rabbit kabuto from Heavensturn in 2011
then there was the dragon kabuto from 2012
then there was supposed to be the snake kabuto for 2013, but the servers went dead before it happend, so SE gave them to us when the 2014 Heavensturn started.

    First was Rabbit
    Second was Dragon

You missed the ones we got in version 1

Frankly almost all these ugly kabuto and other such rewards go straight into the storage bin. A nice elegant outfit would be a welcome change imo

They bothered because we complain if we don't get things, just as we complain when we do. The helmets were started already from 4 years ago, there's not much reason to discontinue the tradition (which is in the spirit of celebrating New Years btw... tradition). It's simple to do because it's a reskin of existing armor from 1.0. The concept of the zodiac isn't as foreign to the world as a whole, unlike something like the cheongsam and the color red for China, which again have no New Years exclusive meaning even for them (unlike the Zodiac animals).

Also remember that this is a game made in Japan. They're not as culturally diverse with the populous as the west is. They're going to do things as they know it without being culturally insensitive with what they bring out.
