XII was a little slower paced though, it wouldn't of worked with the new combat system unless they implemented a pause mechanic and slowed down the pace and damage some of the bosses deal. However a pause mechanic would also get in the way of the battle ranking system the trilogy has in place. It's kind of a weird predicament...
I love XII to death but I really like that SE tries new gameplay experiments with each of their recent games. I don't prefer XIII's over any other, but I don't hate it, it had little neat tricks and strategies to it, like how I learned Snow is a great Ravager to fill the stagger bar because he throws magic with both hands or Sazh has an amazing Commando Blitz against large enemies etc...
I feel this way sort of. Honestly I still find the Gold Saucer existing in Eorzea to be kind of out of place. Clouds buster sword in LB1/2 and Aeriths staff appearing in WHM LB3 is super goofy also. I'm used to it by now though and it probably isn't going to change anytime soon.

Viewing the trilogy as a whole, I loved the story and the characters a lot. Lightning is my all time favourite female character of all time. *emosh*

That's probably not the only reason they'll hate XV. Modern day SE is a completely different company than the one that made good FFs. The focus of the franchise now is visuals and graphics. XV is going to be a beautiful game without a doubt, but that's probably going to be it.
XV already seems to have a lot of weird decisions but I'm not going to write it off before it's even out and this is coming from someone who so far dislikes everything that's been shown for it. III and tactics are my favorite games in the series but I can't really say I dislike any of the FF games, the most i'm iffy on is VII and VIII but even they are still kind of fun at times. That's probably not the only reason they'll hate XV. I'm mainly scared that since XV has been tossed around so much for so long that the game is going to be a total mess. Plus it's not a very colorful game which is a big turn off for me.

Agreed. I'm still going to play it, of course, but I'm going to go into it the same way I went into the new star wars movie: expecting it to be horrible. That way I'm not disappointed with it, and if it does turn out to be decent, it'll be a pleasant surprise.XV already seems to have a lot of weird decisions but I'm not going to write it off before it's even out and this is coming from someone who so far dislikes everything that's been shown for it.
