I guess I was exaggerating a little bit there. I've only seen this happen once in game and it was a zone wide shout fight with Roe's, Hyur, and Elezen's talking down to Miqo'te and Lalafell. Happened a year or so ago on the hyperion server, not a nice server back then. Balmung is so much better. But I see threads like this pop up from time to time every few month. So it's one of those "unproven fears" I have from forum reading. Much like how I'm to scared to DF EX primals cause of all the horror stories I read about it, I worry I'll run into someone who really does hate me just for being a Miqo'te. But I have yet to really meet such a person. In game > Forums, I guess. ^_^;
(I really should stop reading the forums as much as I do, I think I'd enjoy the game more that way. >_<)
That's questionable. It could be a male player who wants to be "the alpha male", it could be a male player who likes men, but of course sex has nothing to do with being horny so... it could be a female player I guess. I just assume that female players make more decent choices when it comes to glamour.
I really don't care whats behind the screen, if its a half naked male I'm happy. What does that make me? Your guess is better than mine.
I started with Mi'qote who was the cutest thing ever. She was young, innocent, and ready to jump into a strange new world.
For Heavensward I switched to Roegadyn because serious storyline is serious and I wanted to show a character that had matured a bit and was more glamorous instead of cute.
As for femroe's looking male ..
My fabulous mustache says otherwise
Good luck convincing the men who believe this. For some reason, a lot of them like to believe that there's an abundance of other men out there pretending to be women. I have no idea why so many men might pretend this but I think it says something very interesting that this is such a widely held male belief. Maybe it's the fear of being hit on by other men? Maybe it's because some guys are uncomfortable around women (and imagining everyone is a man eases this feeling of discomfort?).
Anyway, I also think it's wrong to assume that someone is male because of how they dress their character. A character isn't just a set of pixels we ourselves can drool over; our characters can also be personas we take on for a role-playing experience (this is a RPG right?). I mean, someone might not feel comfortable dressing sexy in real life and it can be fun to do so in a safe setting (like the fantasy world of a game).
Lastly, transgender women may play female characters in game. Playing a game like FFXIV might be one of the few avenues where they can be their true selves or explore that part of who they are. Calling them male and not believing they are the gender they say they are is the same crap they have to put up with in real life. By the way, I am a social worker who works with trans people, so I have seen the effects this can have on someone.
My personal view is that people should take someone at their word and give them the benefit of the doubt. And even if someone sounds male in a voice chat program or something, to just let it go. We really don't need more gender police.
I don't care if is a man or a girl behind of the screen too. But if is a female miquote or Au ra I wouldn't send a friend request for them, because I just add beautiful chars on my friendlist. And I don't think that females miquotes/Au ras are attractive races.
Love the look! Uh.aside from the mustache that is.I started with Mi'qote who was the cutest thing ever. She was young, innocent, and ready to jump into a strange new world.

On topic: I started out as a Roe because I wanted to play a badass female character (instead of a cute or sexy one). My Roe was still pretty (it's really hard to make an ugly character in FFXIV) but I just got bored of playing a Roe. Plus, I'm somewhat of a min-maxer and I wanted to favor STR over VIT (I was playing WAR and DRG the most). I know it really doesn't matter but I wanted a set of stats that were the absolute best fit. So I played a Hyur for a while.
Then I came up with a really fun character name (Sparkle Motion) that seemed just right for a Lalafell BLM, so I switched again. My Lalafell was really cute and I loved the emotes so it was a nice change of pace for a while.
My most recent switch was to a kitty ninja named Purrfect Storm (after a FFXI character I had). I glamoured a pretty neat look and thematically it's nice to shoot lightning bolts (Raiton) and ride the Ramuh pony (it suits the name "Storm" nicely).
So to summarize, it was just time to play a M'qote for a while. I'm not into anime. I don't drool over animated pixels (much lol). And it wasn't even that I don't like the other game races (I have alts that are an Elezen and Au'ra). I just come up with a concept and then try to fit my character to that concept.
I know plenty of women that play female and male characters.
I don't say I'm female unless asked. but if someone wants to say I'm a guy whatever.
None of us are cats or elves. We enjoy the fantasy and creation of our characters.
But if someone says their a girl then they are. This isn't a boys game.
It might be funny to keep going " nahh ur a dude" but its quite annoying to be pestered about your gender.
