I want to start the game if it ever releases on PS3.
I'm really hoping they make at least a couple of fresh servers once the game's sorted out and the PS3 version's launched. That way I could start over with some friends without the messed up economies of the current servers, and there'd be a lot of other people doing the same.
But then I reckon they'd allow server transfers anyway so that might be redundant.
you also have to remember it would not only be the people still playing now that would quit. it would also be those that had a class or 2 at cap that decided to take breaks until more content that was released not returning as well. how many of the people that are on breaks now of the few hundred k worth of copies would it push to stay away from the game permanently.

I can definitely see that for a no-name small time dev., but personally I think SE still has a brand name to protect, and that more than anything else is the reason they won't go for a wipe.I think they really are focused on new console sales and untapped markets (i.e. china)
That is where they will break even on this game. I wouldn't be surprised if they did a character wipe after stating they wouldn't, after all, calming free2play community is quite a bit different that doing what is ultimately best for your share holders.
If they perceived some reason why it was desirable financially, or just in the best interest of the game when they "re-release" it, then they will, and that will be that. There may be some excuse produced such as "we had no choice because of fundamental game design changes" or "unrecoverable database corruption" or who knows, but they would do it.
The community for this game is quite small, and they probably think of it as damaged goods anyway, so outraging this audience is negligible in the grand scheme of things, when you look at the big picture. In other words, I don't think retaining the current audience is a core goal or strategy.
also, I don't know where you pulled F2P out of, but I certainly haven't heard anything about the game going perma F2P
I just imagined someone tripping over a moogle plushie and landing an elbow on the big red reset button in the middle of the dev's office. "Oh crap..."
When all else fails, Heck the Bed.
If they wanted to do that, they should have shut the servers down, and not bothered with wasting time putting out releases for us to play. They could have made all the drastic changes they wanted that way, and they'd get them all done quicker.I've been thinking... (so have everyone here so far too) ...after I've been reading through the grips and complaints (which could be critical feed back), hasn't everyone considered whether they'd continue playing?
When the PS3 version is released and all is said and done, you'll have to start paying to play. What was logged in my mind since BETA, that everyone will have a fresh start on its global release (not like FFxi had happen).
Do you think you'll begin from the beggining and if so, will you pay to keep playing?
It's Free to Play now and we have the advantage over those who haven't bought FFxiv... if fact, we had an advantage that cost us nothing.
Think about it, will SE bump us down to Rank 1 again? Please be serious about your post, thank you!
But, with the way they've gone, they couldn't possibly chop everyone's character down to bits. They'd instantly lose the player base they've been attempting to preserve all this time.

Not happening.
A full reset would be the final nail for XIV.
If it up too me i would hit the reset to many people have hit 50 when the game was easy mode, to many people have so much gil due to the leves giving you a lot of Gil. But then again i sure would not like to start over but i think it be best if they make craft hard to level and limit how many you can level. Allowing everyone to hit 50 craft is dumb no one really sell anything they just level them up themselfs and make there own stuff.
But really i would not like to start over it's a nice idea but no a lot of people would stay.
