    General healing guides/mindsets

I've read an AST 60 guide (as much as is applicable to a 50) and follow everything in it. Been grinding trials/dungeons for my poetics for days and the role (on WHM/AST) is not getting any easier. Even 50's dungeons are confusing and headache-inducing, but nothing phases me on DPS.

Other than not spamming the biggest heals, dodging, predicting damage when possible, not staying in cleric stance too long, and not running out of MP, what am I missing here?

Healing is more stressful than DPSing, so maybe that's what's going on with you. There's too many variables to pay attention while healing, and as a DPS you're basically worrying about one or two things. Keep going until you get used to healing. You could try not DPSing at all as a healer until this confusion is gone, since stance dancing can add more stress to the role.

Stance dancing is the only enjoyable part of it, really. Otherwise I'll do nothing (not my best skill) for ~10 seconds until some massive spike damage takes someone down to ~25% or less. At least during pulls.

Boss fights I find I already have no time for it except during long casts.

If you're keeping Apected Ben(Diurnal) up about 100% ( not prepull) and stacking aspected Helios before/during rough patches you should have plenty of time to DPS. Allot of being a healer is gauging how much damage a tank will take over the course of the next GCD.

If your healer gear is up to date and you are actively trying to DPS I think you're giving yourself too little credit. As your gear gets better the smoother it will feel on your healers.

There's the problem, then: you like the DPS part, not the healing one.

I'm not sure why you're stressing out during the 50's dungeons. Maybe disable in game music, install the Free Youtube downloader, download "FFXIV OST Snowcloak Theme ( The Warrens )" from youtube, play it on repeat in the background, then try running those dungeons again?

Sorry, but I don't agree with you. The problem is that healer job is terribly easy except in raid environment and some instances. That's why he probably finds entertaining DPS while healing, it adds another layer of complexity to the job.

Stance dancing is part of the wonderful allure of healing in ffxiv. The feeling you get when you have achieved placing your DoTs and managing to keep your tank alive, (Combination of your Healing/DPS out aggroing all the other party members lol) is hard to beat. You are Madonna on her best days. xD (The GiF Thread is starting to get to me xD)

Keep stance dancing. Push your limits. Carry those parties and stay sexy. : D <3

I'm probably a little stingy with my AOE heals/shields.

Everything is just DPS with added functionality, really. Tanks are just DPS that take the focus off other DPS at the expense of their own DPS, so that others can DPS even more.

I have no idea, either. Healing seems to be a clusterfuck of everything I do as DPS plus several more things and more people, which is where the beginnings of a headache come in. That's why I think it's more about my approach or theory. There just has to be an easier way.

Exactly. Like going from just having a basic rotation to weaving in all my off-GCDs per pull (and not flying off any platforms). No idea what the healer equivalent for gauging my own performance is, other than less huddling in the corner of the FC house under a pile of Paissa dolls.

I never said otherwise, but when a DPS player heals and finds relief in being able to DPS, the issues with the role become clear. He already said that he feels confused and that's head-ache inducing to heal, so maybe he has problems with healing because he doesn't enjoy healing. If you can only enjoy a job when you're dealing damage with it, it means you should be playing DPS instead.
