Grade V Materia from i170 Crafting Accessories

Heya! So... I had an NQ Astral Birch Armillae that was at 100% Spiritbond aaaaand I decided to craft an HQ version (now that I had better stats and was better at crafting), so I decided to convert my old Armillae into materia. It yielded a Grade V Materia that gave Control +7. So... that's a thing, apparently! XD

SE never made any patch note announcement about being finally able to convert crafting/gathering gear into tier 5 Materia. The last thing I'd seen indicated that it was not yet possible, and that the only means of acquiring tier 5 crafting/gathering Materia was high luck with Mutatrix!

Still, with i160 combat gear turning into tier 5 combat Materia, something higher turning into tier 5 Materia is expected. Thank you for demonstrating that it is now possible to actually create the stuff though.

It was simply a matter of good fortune that I got it, I feel. I doubt it's a high percentage chance. But at least it's possible!

This is the first *solid* proof I've seen in English that it works. I'd seen potato quality screenshots in Japanese & still had some doubts but this is pretty much confirmation. Congratulations!

UPDATE: I decided to replace my i170 gathering gear, got a Grade III and a Grade IV materia respectively. So I am guessing that it's not going to be a common drop at all.

It's not common at all. I remember converting 4 accessories 4 months ago and getting G3 and G4 materias. Still, I might try to SB a full set again at some point if I'm motivated enough.

Indeed - I converted a Wyvernskin Jerkin the other day and got a II materia. Considering its i80 in the old days it would have guaranteed a III & probably have been IV. Those materia changes were harsh. XD
