I haven't unsubbed from the game since September 2010 (I only have to pay $9.99 since I'm Legacy). Maybe this game isn't for you, or you should not play this game 24/7 so you feel burnt out. I'm taking a break until Monday since I've been playing the game a lot recently.

Yes please... this is probably on the lower end of priority of things addressed, but definitely ranking up there especially with the increased inventory burden from the relic and crafting in general in Heavensward.

And this is probably one of the biggest annoyances a lot of us have always had. We have a key items tab, however - most 'quest' items for end game content do not use it. There are so many currencies - that do not use the currency tab as well. In this new relic, not exagerating I have over 18 different inventory slots taken up by various items needed now. AND I DO NOT EVEN HAVE ALL THE POSSIBLE ITEMS. Let alone Heavensward added new jobs, without increasing the armory chest - heaven forbid those of us who play all classes want to keep a few costumes or alternate items on our character. Our retainers are stuffed with glamor items.. its just bad. I even 'bought' an extra one with real money just to make the game enjoyable again from drowning with stuff in my inventory. People who craft and gather will perhaps feel this more than those who do not, but still, 20+ relic 'quest' items filling your limited inventory is inexcusable!

I agree there should be some sort of grind if you aren’t raiding to get the most powerful weapon currently in the game and it shouldn’t be easy enough you get it in a week. With that said this first stage went overboard. You have us doing old content married with more of the same is super boring. I did those sylph quest and nothing on this earth will compel me to do them again. Of course there are other options, but I am going to flat our refuse to grind for this relic and this is coming from someone who did the zeta relic quest twice before the nerfs.
The relic has been the most disappointing thing I've seen in a subscription MMO. Not the grind. I expect a grind. I like the feeling of accomplishment when you earn something. I'll break the issues into two categories: relic 'story', and relic 'content'.

    Story Wise:
I feel there is a complete lack of story and personality of these quests. Every class is the same - there's no uniqueness, which makes less since since (especially if you decide to do more than one relic) these sentient soul weapons are all identical twins?!! It just makes the whole process feel lazy and game lengthening. There's no connection to our job or our role for the extension of our characters with that weapon. Our relic may as well just be a stick for all its 'legend'. The only thing legendary about it is the amount of work you put into it, it's name pulled from mythology, and a glow slapped on.

What relics -should- be is a continuation of our job quests after 60. Each relic should have its own storyline, its own evolution. The actual content of it can be similar and overlapping of these quests, but at least the player will feel like they are making something relevant to their current role! Players would feel like more work and care were put into the game they love - and for many what really makes FFXIV shine compared to other MMOs is the polish in the writing and dialogue - play to your strengths! A lot of us would look forward to completing each step feeling the bond with the weapon we are growing so much more if it was relevant to our jobs. Older MMOs did this, please reconsider with future steps! I would love to see what you can do with the actual crafting of sentient weapons for different roles. It would be fine if certain parts were class unique, and others were generic too, just the current and old relics felt like they only existed story-wise in the world to give the player busywork between content patches.

    Content wise:
A typical player doesn't like being told he needs to do 2000 hours of community service for his quest. That's what a lot of these 'relic tasks' turn into. Collect law/poetics, run Alexander 600 times, etc. The first steps of the 2.0 relics were not so heinous - they could be done in a week even by a casual player, and yet these were the only steps that had unique trials for them. Why didn't we get a new Chimera or Hydra? Why are old world Hunts more efficient than new hunts? Like I said previously, I don't mind work, but when the '12 tasks of Asterix" we are given are all content we've already been doing for months (or worse yet, stopped doing months ago because they weren't even relevant then..) - of course players will be annoyed.

In short, the relic didn't 'add' anything to the game. It just said, well, if you go do what was already there.. we promise you a shiney. Unfortunately a shiney that will be no doubt obsolete by the time most players complete it. Let's not kid ourselves, a new primal/boss will likely be dropping 215 weapons in the next patch. This is the other issue about having a massive relic grind in a vertical progression MMO. Players will work longer for the weapon than they will ever use them! Grinds like this made sense in FFXI, and other mmos, where what you got was of near-permanent use to you.

I love this game, but I share thoughts with Teddy, we love it more than it loves us.

Its sad that a game you love doesn't do it for you anymore. I've gone through that before.

I would say however that there are some things you should consider.

    1. Several of your points are issue that may have limitations that make them very difficult to work on. They have even spoken on a few of these issues before and have given broad explanations why they aren't simple fixes.

    2. Change takes time. What the things you hope for are rather drastic changes that, ignoring the technical issues of the game engine, hold huge balance implications that have to be addressed. Its not something they can rush into with risking making things far worse. Its worth noting that the Materia changes in 3.2 are them taking a step to make gear more customisable so its not like they are ignoring the issue entirely.

    3. Things like the Anima quest are exactly what they promised. A lot of people build self assumptions that didn't match what SE told us to expect. While having completely brand new content for everything we get would be fun, it also takes a lot more time to make. People complain about the lack of content already. Making everything without making use of older content would mean even slower development and less incentive to actually look at older content again.

    4. Peoples tastes change. There was something about ARR that you loved that you aren't finding in HW but essentially the game is pretty much the same. Yeah there have been some fails (Alexander and the gap between 3.0 and 3.1 being the big ones) but the game itself hasn't drastically changed from what you loved before. Its possible though that what you are looking for in a game has changed instead and that's why FF14 isn't doing it for you anymore. That's pretty normal. People's tastes constantly evolve. It's very often apparent in long lasting games like MMOs because of their lifecycles and people move on from MMOs all the time.

Either way I hope you find entertainment your looking for even if you cant find it in FF14.

Yea one of the nice thing about FFXI was the relic you got in that game literly lasted you for 7-8 years so it was well worth the effort.

While I have multiple Lv50+ jobs, I only keep/collect stuff for NIN and PLD. WHM is Lv60 soon, so I've began keeping her stuff as well. But all my jobs usually sport the same look lol...

The reason why it lasted so long is because the development team did not want to progress any further or add in newer weapons etc.

Yeah, I play a lot. And when I feel like I begin to struggle (go on a losing streak), I break for Elder Scrolls Online for a breather for about an hour or two.

Yeah, because the job level cap was 50 for a long time. Increase to Level Cap saw modifications to Relic after Empyrean stole the spotlight.

Thordan Ex and Alexander 4 Savage has higher iLv weapons than current Awoken relics. However, many people are satisfied with the Awokens since Thordan and Alex are outside most of our grasps. I've been attempting Thordan at least 4 times a day minimum since it was released; no clear. I am no where near A4S since I can't even clear A1S.

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty disappointed with heavensward as far as max level content goes. 2.0 was some of the best times I've ever had in a game, but 3.0 is just...meh.

I loved the leveling story, and heavensward was worth the purchase just for that, but there's just so little interesting things to do at endgame. I'm doing savage, but only to hang out with my friends, I don't actually care if we win or not because it's just not interesting.

I'm not going to leave though, because if I left XIV, I'd probably go back to WoW as my main time killer...and Draenor is 10 times worse.
