What I gather from this thread is not the lack of content but the amount of "I can't be bothered doing that" aka lazy people.

If you are only gonna focus in one class and max it out you gonna end up with nothing else to do. But that doesn't mean there's NOTHING else to do...... There is a lot to do in this game. Don't blame your laziness on a game that provides a lot of content.

It makes me wonder what do people do when they get a brand new game? Do you just finish it and move to the next one or get everything that you could possibly get from it?

Not many actual gamers in here. It makes me wonder why do they even play a MMO at all.

But what if players do not like certain classes? If player Y hates healing, they will not have any reason to level the healer classes, does this mean they are lazy and not a gamer?

Being lazy and being bored are not the same thing.

Maybe it's because the content isn't fun? A game that can't hold players is due to it being unfun, I could make a game where you have to click on an image 1,000,000 times and sell it for $60, does that mean people will play and enjoy it? No, it does not. The "You haven't done everything there is to be done" is a pathetic excuse. Guess what? I haven't tried every build in Dark Souls, and yet I have 700 hours in the game, a game I picked up for $15 no less. I can say just about every minute of that was myself enjoying it, from the PvP to playing it casually, to speedrunning it or doing co-op runs with friends. With 1600 hours in FFXIV and most of that is either idle time, or time grinding away where it felt like a job.

Tell me, is a player going to pay for what they deem unfun? No, they're not going to just because you shove the argument that they complain until they've done absolutely everything. I personally find things like glamour, the new story additions, chatting with friends fun and so I'm subscribed, but if my friends leave and the story I'll end up subbing once per patch cycle to see the story, and if the story goes downhill (like 3.1's MSQ where it was nothing but a build up) I'll end up subscribing twice per expansion, at the beginning and at the end. No amount of "You haven't done everything that is mind numbingly boring so don't complain" is going to make someone stay, when I find FFXIV boring I logout and go player another game, not put myself through a pointless grind. Level a new class, why? I'm not going to play it, I'm not going to bother to gear it, the job quests aren't worthwhile for the grind it takes to get little snippets.

Most of the meat and potatoes of the game is doing the story line because it gives you a purpose. The end game lacks the same fulfillment. You gear up and the gear became out dated so quickly in this expansion pack that it took the thrill out of running stuff for new gear. That's why the primals became null and void within weeks.

If I can't be bothered to do stuff they need to get to work and find a way to motivate me, that's what they are paid for. If they fail to entertain me and they don't bother to change that, they are the lazy ones. I am paying for a service, now I gotta do their work as well? And for free?

I get all the fun I can possibly get from it which does not equate to all the content because some of it is going to be fun for me. I think you're mistaking a gamer with someone affected by ocd.

Quite how do developers manage to pull off the miraculous feat of un-jading a jaded player?

Same way they did in 1.0 I guess. Ask the players what they want and try to tailor to the masses needs. There will always be someone with a chip on their shoulder but most people want to play the game and enjoy it other wise they wouldn't be here talking about changes that need to be made.
