If you're poor in-game it's a viable alternative, 50k for a dye is costly. Although I have gold feathers for pure white and jet black dyes.

Depending on the server, the price goes up a lot. On mine, jet black dyes have been at 200k yesterday.
If you want to change the color of a whole set, that's 6 x 200k = 1,2 million Gil. There are enough people who'd rather pay RL money than spend that much ingame, since RL money is easier to make.

Because either you don't want to pay for overinflated prices of the dyes on the market board or your retainer's RNG isn't good enough to bring the dyes back to you or enough of them.

so it's better to pay over priced real money for a dyes (really$1 for just one?) then paying with ingame gill for them? besides its obviously a server based price range, mine for example most dyes don't really go that high.
