Personally, I enjoy the current loot system for the 3.1 dungeons. It's taken awhile, but they've finally combined items and gear into chests. Sure, we all tire of more RNG, but at least it feels a little more rewarding going after the chests. You know, like the dungeons actually have TREASURE? Potion chests are skipped A LOT. However, I was hoping they'd give us some better potions/items in the 3.1 chests. There are so many dungeons that give X-Potion/Ether already. Why not, at least, give us HQ consumables? Perhaps the NQ "Max-" for very rare chance? Besides all that, I'm fine with the boss loot. Fractal and Neverreap handed gear out like candy. I'm swimming in SEALS because of that.

I always see the argument that the more rare and RNG bound something is, the more rewarding it feels but that's not the case or well, not for me anyway. There is a great difference between the feeling of being accomplishment or something being rewarded, and that of relief. Relief is the feeling when you have enough savings to survive for a bit of time to find a new job after being laid off, which usually follows frustration while the rewarding feeling is being promoted. One is positive while the other is a mix, but I don't believe inflicting players with frustration is the way to go in the long run. When I'm frustrated I just log out of the game and end up playing something else, for days at a time I could not even want to think about FFXIV, I'm sure that's not a position they want to be in. It's never gotten that extreme with dungeon drops, but it has with the ponies.

Besides, they're dungeon gear used for the purpose of alts, glamour or seals. Not some BiS gear, there's no reason for it to be both mind numbing and frustrating to obtain.

I wouldn't say more RNG = more reward. The way I see it is: Back before Heavensward, we had dungeons that only rewarded gear after killing a boss. All the other chests were random "junk" or potions. Eventually we got "Accessory" chests, but in the end you could cherry-pick what chests to grab.. In 3.0 we get chests that actually reward gear just for grabbing them, but still had guaranteed potion-chests. Now, with 3.1, all of the chests can reward potions, items, or gear. Nothing is guaranteed, and sure that is more RNG, but it's also a more authentic experience. I believe that in itself is more rewarding.

Should dungeons really toss gear at us? Boss-chests should be the only guaranteed gear loot, because I'm sure we remember how annoying those 2.0 dungeons that dropped material loot from boss chests. Perhaps a way for the boss loot to evolve, is if the chest had a chance for more than a single piece; maybe an extra one or two pieces?
