Gil seller spam is really bad now

I have to turn on /busy as soon as I log on or else I get an annoying message once every 30 seconds - 1 minute. This prevents me from seeing tells from actual players and also I have to drop /busy whenever I need an invite from someone.

Is Square Enix going to do more to combat gil sellers? I play WoW as well and I can't remember the last time I have received a whisper from someone trying to get me to buy gold. They obviously did something to kill gold sellers in that game because it's not a problem anymore, at least not on the server I play on.

It has BEEN bad. I don't remember a point in the history of the game (since 2.0) where it hasn't been bad.

In WoW most of the gold sellers sent me mails instead of tells. You can't send mails in this game unless you are friends.

Honestly, outside of no gil sellers at all, I'd rather have the crap coming through my mail, at least I can delete it at my own convenience then lol.

Moving to a small server is actually the worst possible advice for dealing with RMT spam. Going to a continually locked server is the best solution. If they can't create characters, they can't spam. I see a couple messages a week on Gilgamesh.

The reason you don't see it on wow is because they have "official" gold buying now. Something I'd really rather not see in FFXIV.

It seems the only solution is to go to a small, unpopulated server, that is also locked because it's too populated. That, or a JP server. I hear that the gil spam is non-existent there. Truthfully, it seems like all the complaints about it are the NA servers, which probably says a lot.....

I can confirm my server never got any Gil Seller here. Also JP people almost can't read english word so it's useless for those outsider to sell there (might be banned quickly or no one interested?)

Best advice anyone can offer for you OP is to transfer to a more populated server. I've been on Balmung for months now and have yet to receive a single RMT tell. When I made an alt on Odin, I got one before the opening cut scene even finished.
