Someone in another thread said this monster appears in Diadem and it even casts meteor.
I've yet to see it for myself but I thought it was pretty awesome reference.

Would we also include things like the Wind-up Kain minion and the Baron Helm, Baron Circlet, and Baron Earrings being direct references to FF IV? The Kain minion is obviously Kain, while the Baron Helm is Cecil's Dark Knight helmet, with the Baron Circlet and Earrings being from after he changed to a Paladin.....
EDIT: Just noticed that the main post was last updated seven months ago, so these have likely all been listed already by many other contributors.....

First off I'd should point out that 13 is not a large number, unless you're counting the monsters as characters
FF 1:
FF 2:
- Matoya, her cave and the associated music are all based a character, a location and is remixed from the music of the same name (respectably)
- The Warrior of Light as seen in the box art is also found in Mammot form. As the Wind Up Warrior of Light
FF 3:
- Firion's oufit and a mammot of him are Veterans rewards
- "Where the wild rose blooms" is shown as certain quests as a passcode of sorts for the Scions
FF 4:
- Each of the Four Elemental fiends form that game are bosses in this game. Cerberus, Tiamat, The 2 Headed dragon and Echidna. The former three are the first 3 bosses of the World of Darkness, while the the latter is the endboss of the Void Ark
- Note: The Ahriman boss is called Angrya Maynu due to the name already being used for their species and mobs in N. Thanalan in particular, likewise the Two Headed Dragon has 3 extra heads this time
FF 6:
- Pharos Sirius HM's endboss is based on the Mom Bomb, with a similar name (Proginitrix essentially being another word for mother) similar mechanics (She spawns 3 Grey Bombs and 3 Normal bombs after death) and and even said that "mom's [herself] mad" in her final moments. The other end boss of the dungeon, Progenitor also references the Mom Bomb in a roundabout way, being essentially the father.
FF 11:
- Like Firion and the Boxart WoL, Relm Arrowry also also gets a poppet effigy, unlike the above two, you need to get an artbook for her
- Shantotto minion, like the FF XIII gear thought this minion is event exclusive and the Tarutaru herself appears as part of it. Another Shantotto exists as the one who created the Stardust Rod.
- The new Dragoom job quests have a Lance named Peregrine, the lance of the Dragoon's first artifact set
- Speaking of events, another FF character, Iroha, also appears in XIV as part of a different event.
FF 12:
- The Summoner quests have you face an egi of Belias, one of the espers in XII and the first Esper seen and tamed in the Story (Note that Ifrit is likewise the first primal in XIV's plot and both are fire-aspected, and that the Egi is a palette swapped Ifrit-Egi)
- Speaking of Egis, the term originated from a mob in that game, which was a lesser version of a boss. The monster's name? Garuda-Egi
- Mobs found in the Stillshrine of Miriam (found near the aforementioned Garuda-Egis) are reused in the Sunken Temple of Qarn, Other mobs such as the crocodiles/alligators, the Mandragoras (thought that design is probably used earlier than that) and the Aevis/platewyrms are also used in this game
- 11 of the Ascians are named after the Scions of Light, the Espers' counterpart, the 12th was named after an alternate Spelling of "Ultima" which has no opposing counterpart
- Actually one for Tactics but a Mob in Sirius HM is called Construct 8, after one of the characters in Tactics

Heartless Black Mage Rod's is a direct reference to the enemies from Kingdom Hearts the Disney x Final Fantasy crossover series.
The Heart on the rod has a striking resemblance to the Heartless crest.

I don't know if it was mentioned because it was obvious, but Midgardsormr is similar in appearance to the eponymous enemy in FF7 (called midgar zolom in the English version).

Midgarsormr actually references across many other games too, plus, Midgardsormr has many other names: Terrato, Midgar Swarm, Midgar Zolom, Jormungand, Jorgandr, or Yormungand
Suirieko Mizukoshi ofExcaliburLamia

Sephirots phase 1 theme is taken from Final Fantasy VI (Bear with me) and is called "Battle to the Death" but did you also know that during one point in the song you can hear a bit of Final Fantasy VI's battle theme?
Anti Tower is very similar to Ipsens Tower from Final Fantasy IX
Calcabrina being a boss from Final Fantasy IV. It's phase 1 theme is also from Final Fantasy IV called "Dancing Calcabrina"
Alexander Midas 5 Boss looks similar in appearance to Doctor Lugae from Final Fantasy IV
Alexander Midas 8 boss is a homage to classic Japanese mecha and super sentai shows
Those are what I've caught in this new patch.

99% of this game is a reference to some other Final Fantasy or Square Enix game. It's fanservice the game.

But that's the whole point of this thread - to determine all that and catalogue it for those who aren't aware.
That is definitely correct, however, in regards to the title of that track, my copy of the old SNES FFVI OST FFVI Original Sound Version lists that track in English on the back cover as 'The Fierce Battle' - given that it seems there has been a lot of retconning of older FF tracks with new titles when they've been added to iTunes and the like (I mean, look how many times FFVII's battle theme has been renamed? It started out simply as 'Fighting' and now is known variously as either Those Who Fight or Fight! depending on where you find the track), so call me stubborn but I tend to stick with the original titles instead of the 'retconned' version - hence I'll keep calling this track Fierce Battle instead of 'Battle to the Death'![]()
It most definitely is. Another FFIX reference in patch 3.2 is the new airship design added with 3.2 that players can make in Free Company Workshops is the Viltgance - the Viltgance was the name of a class of air battleship used by Lindblum in FFIX (sadly the design for it in FFXIV does not match the FFIX version however).

Is there a thread for non-Final Fantasy related references? I was pretty happy to see this one from Resident Evil:
Spoiler below for Paladin's quest line:
