Pretty sure the trailer has been acknowledged by Yoshida as being a case of "Oops, we sent the animators the wrong dragon." I assume the wallpaper was just following the trailer.
A few versions of the story exist, since (to my knowledge) nobody's found in which section of which LIVE Letter this was brought up.
A more specific interpretation of the explanation was that, a year before the trailer was released (when it was just starting development), there were no complete models of important dragons aside from Hraesvelgr, which was provided to the outside Visual Works team by Yoshida as a reference. When the pre-render was finished, things were far enough along that they knew Hraesvelgr was going to be the good(-ish) dragon, but it was waaay too late to fix the trailer, so they changed the only thing they could and dyed all the obviously-Hraesvelgrs red, lore be damned.
Better than no trailer, right?
As for how accurate that version is, I have no idea.

A quick reddit search says it was probably mentioned in the guest section of LLXX:

It was a goof by the FMV animators.
They had an image of a dragon, which they proceeded to use even though it wasn't the right one. Once people started noticing that it was Hraesvelgr and not Nidhogg (or whatever), it was too late to do anything about it since FMV animation takes a lot longer to produce and is extremely expensive.
So chalk it up to a big goof.

They SAID it was a goof, at any rate.
I'm willing to bet we'll be fighting Hraesvelgr at some point, just because that's how it works in games like this. Maybe that trailer will become canon yet.
Not only that, but all the dragons in the trailer used Hraesvalgr's design.
Same reason bards can cast Protect in the End of an Era video, and the Aetheryte is IN the Drowning Wench in the 1.0 intro.A few versions of the story exist, since (to my knowledge) nobody's found in which section of which LIVE Letter this was brought up.
