This limit was put in place partially to mitigate the amount of money that RMTs could exchange without having to go through the process several times. There are other reasons as well, but this is the most prominent reason among them.It's kinda ridiculous that we can't trade more than 1 million gil at a time.
Most things now cost well over 1 million gil and someone is taking a risk by trading several million gil to a stranger before getting the item. The alternative is the crafter trades the item after the first trade and risks not getting the remainder of the gil.
I think a limit of 10 or 20 million per trade is more reasonable.
