Why not remove spell casting animations while we're at it? That way someone will have to have you targeted to know if you're casting anything.

People can bash WoW all they want but one thing it definitely did well was visual indicators for important effects. Ice Block, Divine Shield, Avenging Wrath, Cloak of Shadows, etc. all provided enough visual information to make it so you didn't have to constantly monitor someone's buffs or your chat log in order to know what they were doing. If this game ever wants to have decent PVP it needs to let an experienced player know what is going on at a glance even if his/her UI is off (needs better hit detection too but that's another thread). Someone shouldn't have to target you to determine if you're lagging out or if you're invincible. Similarly, a summoner should be able to just tab-Deathflare a 20% HP paladin without stopping to make sure his Hallowed Ground isn't active.

A blood elf with a two handed weapon is running at you. He's got golden wings and an aura is pulsing around his feet. You're a caster. You probably should turn around and RUN because the wings mean his damage is greatly increased (and he's a paladin) and the aura around his feet means he's immune to movement impairing effects for a few seconds. You know all this without ever targeting him or seeing him activate these abilities.

A mi'qote with a spear is moving towards you. The spear tells you she is a dragoon, and you know that in a brief moment she will Spineshatter Dive you and then ruin your day. Fortunately, you have Swiftcast Tri-Bind ready to go and the range advantage. You tab target and let the spell fly, but you failed to notice the Fetter Ward icon there before you hit the button. Now you're getting limit breaked.

Well bards get an aura during casting it. Would be nice having a subtle purple, orange, blue aura around us when effect is up though as well.

Not going to derail the topic further, but no, I do not find looking at people's buff icons a difficult, trying task, and neither should anyone else. I think giving big flashing indicators to highlight when someone is using a core PVP skill eliminates a huge portion of the strategy involved in using said skills. In your example, that Tri-Bind wouldn't have saved you even IF you saw the Fetter Ward "effect" or whatever - at best you'd have saved yourself the Swiftcast, I guess? LOL.

And really, heaven forfend a SMN not get a guaranteed kill on a sub-20% HP target every once in a while. On a PLD who wasted a FIVE-MINUTE CD simply to deny them that pleasure.

Sorry if I seem hostile, I just don't think PVP needs to be babyproofed. I say this as a SMN who has been LBed plenty a time, and Deathflared my share of Attuned healers and Walking Dead/Hallowed Ground tanks in my time.

Tri-bind has a 5y advantage on spineshatter. If you noticed the fetter ward quickly enough you could turn around and run until it expired. This isn't baby-proofing, this is providing the basic information needed to make the game legitimate. Without it, Wolves' Den has no business getting a ranked mode.

Hallowed Ground is seven minutes, thank you. It still shouldn't be invisible.

please no more auras, the drk one is already annoying as it is in town, we dont need bards perma singing mages ballad in town just so they can go "hurder i look 2 cool 5 skool hurdur notice me" because everyone radiates light when they sing.

with that sort of thinking we should give EVERYONE auras, and make towns be seen from space, omg lets give plds super bright yellow auras when they are in shield oath and eclectic blue auras when they are in sword.

lets make blm auras 3 times bigger and they never go away ever just so they can notice their stacks better and so can everyone else.

better yet lets give ugly strobe light dank side like auras to every single job just because.

im going to have to disagree with this and your example above, first for your example, if you already knew the drg was going to spine shatter dive you, why could t you guess they would fetter ward? like they predicted the first thing you would do is tri bind. it was a failure on your part for not being prepared and for not even looking.

secondly about hollowed ground, for the vast majority of content, you rarely even see your tank past the monsters massive ass on top big flash skills from 4 dps. even healers don't see their tanks or pay attention visually to what the tank is doing, you pay attention to what the boss is doing, what it is casting and your character so you avoid and do any mechanics required of you. that and for most content that is actually difficult to clear, most groups intent on clearing use voice chat. and the tanks saying "il hollowed this next tank buster" works a million times better then trying to see some gaudy aura on a tiny character zoomed all the way out hidden behind a 15 foot tall 10 foot wide raid boss.
