I want to ride a train!

Airships, boats, chocobos, all great means of transportation. But wouldn't it be fun to ride a train? ^^ Remember FF6 and FF8? Trains are always a fun way to travel. Sit in a cabin with friends and watch the land go by quickly. Could have bandits attack from time to time. How about a "whodunit" mystery quest aboard the train?

Anyone else have any ideas?

Trains would fit Eorzea like a glove (Aesthetically at least). Old gritty Western style w/ some futuristic garlean style would be pretty awesome.

However, I don't think it would fit well into any currently released region unless it is planned ahead of time and is made alongside some serious map revamps.

So here's hoping it could be added in a future region!

I'd actually love to see a train system. You could have them as means to take you to major camps (obviously not straight TO the camp, it would have to be a nearby station, but still) faster than a chocobo, but without having to use your anima. Or, you could eventually use them as the means to make between continents in the future via underwater tunnel systems.

Chocobos: On Foot
Airships: Transport between cities
Trains/Boats: Transport between continents and/or near major camps

Honestly in the future I'd like to see multiple ways to get to the same place rather than the "you take this ONE boat/ship to get here" XI had (Ship from Mhaura to Whitegate). A network of transport, you could say.

There should be trains but you should have to hijack one to get into Garlean territory. Or wear Garlean Soldier uniform to get on.

Either way, I would at least love to "ride" an instanced one for a main story cutscene or event. How awesome would it be if you had to stop a Doomtrain?! Just thinking about it gets me pumped!

Someone actually brought up this idea before as some sort of event and/or end-game content. FFXI never really had that umph when it came to endgame. Sure, the boss fights were fun, and got harder as you fought, but I really think it'd be fun to make your way battling through a doom train and then getting to the front to fight a boss summoned by the Doom Train.
